Frito Feet

My husband and I noticed with our old cat Tony that his feet always smelled like Fritos. Now we have the same thing going on with Gryff? What's up with that? Does your dog have Frito feet too or is just us?

Just an idea but my son was talking the other about the fact that dogs sweat through the pads of their paws. Maybe it is a contributing factor.

How funny. I hadn't heard anyone talk about this since 2004, which is when I first saw it on another Havanese list. Several people commented that their dogs had Frito Feet too. (And it wasn't always all the dogs in that household, sometimes just one.) I can't remember what the consensus was, but I just looked online and see a variety of theories, including the sweating ability through their feet as well as possible yeast on the feet. Nothing sounded really serious (nor definitive).

Are you keeping the hair trimmed between Gryff's pads?

Oh yes, I remember Frito feet well. Except mine was my Heinz 57 dog (Dach., Dobie, Mini Schnauzer and Fox Terrier). Thanks for the memories!

OK...so is my Molly the only one whose feet don't smell like Fritos?

It would be my PREFERENCE over the MUD thing, but it is what it is!

Years ago we had a little mutt whose whole body would smell like Fritos. When he began smelling like that, I knew it was time for a bath!

I dump so much perfumey detangler- middle age style, on my babies I don't know what they smell like... What's worse? Knowing they are stinky or covering it up so you never know you need to wash them?

Smelling like Frito's isn't that bad of a problem, just taking about it is making me hungry... =P

I don't think I've had a dog with Fritos Feet and I have a pretty strong sense of smell, so no, Molly isn't alone.
