What on earth came out of my dog's butt?

I just got home and found a lovely mess in my closet. There was one small piece of poop and a few piles of mucousy, tarry, blackish green stuff. I'm guessing it was some sort of diahrea, but it didn't smell like poop at all. Gryff doesn't seem in any type of distress. He's running around chasing a ball right now. Any guess what this is and should I be concerned?

Sounds like he ate something he shouldn't have but is no worse off for it.

He also peed in the house tonight - something he hasn't done since Christmas. I hope you're right Tom. I guess I'll just keep an eye on him.

I know it sounds gross, but did you take a picture?
I've done that once when I was really surprised by her "production", to show to the vet... he said that really was a good idea and was able to assure me...
Just an idea for the next time...
Because I can imagine, you worry anyway until you're fully assured....

That's a really good idea. No, I just cleaned it up as fast and quickly as humanly possible.

yeah, I know, that was my problem too, I wanted it "away" but still some assurance of the strange "production" and if there was any need for worrying....I thought the vet would laugh at me, but the only quick solution for me was to take a picture..... the vet took me very seriously and said with a smile rather a colourful picture than a smelly sample hahahaha!
Only if she'd been really sick a sample would be better, but she wasn't sick at all, so a sample would have never crossed my mind!

Ivy - sounds like he might have just gotten into something that didnt agree with him. I would only start to worry if his next one looks like that too. Keep an eye on it. Let us know how he makes out.

His next one was more solid, but still a bit mucousy. This all reminds me of when my son was a baby and his poop was always such a wide variety of colors and consistancies. Gross.
