Giving In!

Okay I try to go by all the rules, etc. But sometimes I give in. This morning I took Belle and Dora on a walk before work. I decided to let them go offleash, we went thru sidewalks with no cars and I made them heel on the road (I am on a curvy mountain so hardly any traffic!) But they had so much fun and today I am in the best mood because I was able to watch them run and be crazy. I totally cave in! I know there can be dangers, I know LA has leash laws, but seeing my dogs be dogs is priceless!

DH caves in every morning he makes turkey bacon and he gives the girls a piece, they know when he touches the bag what is about to happen and they go crazy. He knows he should make them be good and change up if they get some or not but he says he imagines them dreaming of bacon breakfast and he can't say no!

So what do you do that you know you shouldnt!

Oh My Amanda!!! what DON'T we do that we shouldn't do?

umm:

-I love it when they jump up to greet me
-I love that they wait patiently for the "tiny" table scraps that always fall their way
-I love it that Jasper demands walk time by pawing and grumbling at me or DH.
-I love when they lick the remains of my yogurt or DH's icecream right off my spoon.
-I love it when Cash whines for attention when I am on the computer like he is doing right now

I let Tinky walk out the front door without a leash because she is a perfect Velcro dog. She will go straight to the car to get in, directly into the motorhome if that is where I tell her to go or she will walk a guest to their car when they leave. The other day, I thought she was going to get in the car with Maddie to leave though! She's the only dog I've ever had that I know will not run off. She will "point" to a cat or a bird, but she won't chase them. She is entertained by squirrels, but has no interest in chasing them either. I could be in trouble if she saw her breeder, but that's the only person she'd leave us to follow.

I know I shouldn't and I do keep an eye on her, but that's my "giving in" deal.

Missy- I love how honest you are!!!! I can't give into certain things cause DH yells at me cause I yell at him! Belle is way too crazy and she already thinks she is above him in the food chain so I don't let her dog things to him and I make him correct her!

Kimberly-awww Tinky is a mommy's girl! And she doesn't chase squirrels???? Maybe she doesn't realize she is a dog!

Our girls have us wrapped around their little paws.
McKenna is CRAZY for socks. She will gently grab the toe of a sock (while it's still on the wearer's foot) and pull. We actually take our socks half way off so that she can have the joy of pulling them all the way off. We defintely shouldn't do it but she's so very gentle and she doesn't chew the socks, she just claims them. She hopes to instigate a game of chase but if that doesn't happen she simply lays on them. When I go to bed I gather them up and put them in the laundry basket. No harm done.
Sedona will get into a play stance and bwoof at us for attention. We give it to her!
They know that if we have string cheese, they get some. They do have to do something like sit or down to get it though.

Oh, I KNOW this is a BIG no-no, and it hardly EVER happens, but...

I just can't help but laugh when I walk into a room, and Molly has hub's tighty-whities hanging from her nose!

Molly really DOES understand a firm "NO!" when it comes to the laundry basket, but sometimes it's just too much for her to ignore!

My biggest regret? The camera is always downstairs!!

I'm a total wimp:

1. I let her jump up on furniture. I know all the experts tell you not to or make them wait till they are invited but my DH wouldn't allow our last dog on the furniture and by the time we relaxed she was too well trained to ever be comfortable on the furniture. So I am loving Tessa curling up next to me on the sofa and I simply don't care if she jumps up on her own w/o an invitation

2. We let her jump up on us and give kisses or climb in our lap uninvited to love on us. I know we shouldn't let her and it could be annoying to other people and I really am trying to talk myself into stopping it. But I love to be loved on

3. I can't say no when she drops a toy at my feet "demanding" to play. To see her looking at me adoringly while wagging her tail in anticipation and it melts my heart. Yet I've seen "experts" who say to never give in to these demands.

4. I allow whining

If she were an aggressive alpha dog or likely to take advantage of our "laxness" I wouldn't allow it. But she's so sweet and precious.

I'm sure as time goes on there will be even more unallowable things we will allow

P.S. oh yes! I forgot about the socks and undies!! She loves them and runs through the house so happy and pleased with herself for snagging her "prize". LOL! She doesn't chew or destroy them but steals them for the sheer joy of it. It shouldn't but it always puts a smile on our faces :-)

We too allow Pablo to steal our socks, he looks like the happiest thief on the planet. He never chews on them, just carries them around or sucks on them
I let him walk ahead of me when he's all excited and I'm too slow/lazy to walk faster. In between I do short loose leash walking on a heel position until I allow him to go play/run ahead of me.
I play tug with him every single day, I love it and sometimes tend to be the one teasing HIM to play tug, LOL. I know it's a big big in most dog textbooks. I use the leave-it command in between or when I feel he's getting too involved and it works great.
I took him off leash at our park which turned out to be a 'historical park' where recreational activities weren't allowed But we had SO MUCH fun before they caught us

Overall, we really try to follow the rules, cause our little man tends to have a dominant way and needs to be put in his omega place right away. It works great so far...

I cant even begin to tell you about what I allow - with 3 of them!!!!

Lets just say that they are really in charge of this house - not me. Now with that being said, I do have a few small rules they have to follow.

And of course if anyone says anything I will deny all!!
