Play with a ball??

Whimsy will NOT play with a ball! I have bought several different kinds over the past few years and she just runs up to it when I throw it and walks away. She loves to play fetch with her other toy and is really good about bringing it back to me and leaving it...but ignores a ball.
Does your hav like to play with a ball or is Whimsy just an odd-ball
( get it...odd-ball lol)

Leo has just in the past week discovered a ball. The one we have is a small light blue ball with a groove that makes it wobble when it rolls. He has been enjoying it and is beginning to bring it to me to roll for him.

Kodi didn't like to play with balls until he learned a formal retrieve for obedience. After that, he became a ball fanatic... But it still needs to be the RIGHT kind of ball. The only ones he likes are the small sized Kong squeeky tennis balls. He won't even touch a regular sized tennis ball!

But like Whimsy, he ALWAYS has liked playing fetch with toys. I don't think there's anything wrong with not being interested in balls. I think its good for dogs to want to play, because it's a great way to form a stronger relationship with them. But I don't think the exact form of play matters a lot!

Whimsy would play fetch with me all day long if I were willing...but I would get nothing done if I did. Sometimes I feel so bad because I am in the middle of doing something and she will come and drop her toy by my feet and sit and look at me. Sometimes I give in and play and other times I say 'not now' and she will just lay down...defeated. LOL

Brody prefers his stuffed squeaky toys. We did use to have those little tiny kong tennis balls that squeak, and he liked them OK, but he's always preferred the stuffed toys. He only plays fetch for a few minutes. Usually when he wants to play what he really wants is for me to WATCH him play as he pounces and attacks and throws his toy around the room. If I throw it for him, he'll go a couple or a few times, and then I'll throw it again but and he just looks at me like I'm some sort of lunatic for throwing his toy.

Diva adores balls. She started with the squeaky little Kong ones but she destroys them too easily. Her true love is the small size orange Chuckit balls.

I wonder how she differentiates the ball from the other toy in terms of fetch? Maybe because the ball keeps rolling?

Pixie has been obsessed with a nubby red squeaky ball for the past 4 years and she never let's it out of her sight for long. It was a hand me down from my mom's dog. If it ever goes missing I don't know what she'll do.
