Harness question

When you got your harness, did you leave it on for a while so they could get used to it, or only use it for walks? I am not sure what I should do with Kona. we went on a walk today while the kids road their bike, and he was pulling on it most of the way, backwards... LOL I had to carry him most of our walk. I am not sure if I should leave the harness on him for a while, to get used to it, or if it will rub his hair and skin raw?

Awww poor Little Kona!! I just bought my guys cloth harnesses as a pet expo and they are really nice. I ONLY put them on them when we are going for a walk. My concern is that they will matt their fur. I am sure though, that if you put Kona in the harness for an hour or so every day, it might help him get used to the feel of it.

I think while they are little it won't harm the hair as much if you do leave it on a little bit. I used to put Mirabel is dresses and leave them on. Now she would mat since I don't have her in a puppy cut. I am sure that with more exposure he will get used to it. I always used a harness with Mirabel when she was little. I figured if she pulled on it a little it wouldn't hurt her as much.

The puppia harnesses that I ordered came in today...perfect timing, huh? I've already hooked up the leash and tried to walk Cricket around...she actually didn't do too bad for the first time, AND she looks very cute in it. Here are pics of her and Sushi in their puppias!

Oh! I love those harnesses! The ones we got are really soft fleece.. but I love those. I might just order a few of those. what size did you get for Cricket? I am having a hard time finding one the right size for Kona. I got him 8-10" but it's a bit snug... won't fit in a few weeks I bet. Thanks for the pics... SO cute!

they do sell rolled harnesses. i always have my dog in a rollled collar to avoid matts but i found a rolled harness. they are leather and work very well.

I'd say acclimating him to the harness by his wearing it could work, but just make sure you're with him every minute while he has it on indoors.

I read about a puppy who was wearing a harness and was unsupervised. The harness got caught on something, the pup apparently pulled and pulled, and was able to partially get out, and ended up choking to death on the strap.

I love Molly's Puppia harness, but she only gets to wear it when her hair is longer, since with a puppy cut, it's too big! She needs the BIG HAIR!

Someone posted a link in the collar v. leash thread. Here it is:

I got a small for Cricket, and mediums for the tzus. I'll probably have to upgrade Cricket to a medium as she grows, but for now the small is perfect.

How cute! Dora has a puppia knock off that she loves. I found the perfect one-well I would put easier to snap buckles that is excellent for Belle. Belle can get herself out of things very easily. She would work in a circus if she was human. So we found this one (dora didnt get one cause they only came in little sizes for chi's) But it is a lil backpack. It holds the bags, hair ties, etc. The best part it just fits her perfect.
