New member "lurking"

Hello everyone!

I am a new member who has been "lurking" on this wonderful forum for the last month or so. I haven't posted because I am not yet a Hava-Mom But...this is soon to change!

My friend got a beautiful girl from a local breeder last year and I have watched her grow up. What a joy she's been for the family! When I found out the mom of her little girl was expecting again, I immediately put down a deposit for a puppy! Aaaand...the puppies were born this last Friday!! She had 4 pups: 2 boys and 2 girls! I am SO excited! I'm going over to visit tonight!

I have a question... What is a good age to start seeing the individual personalities? I don't really have a big preference as to gender, but do want a sweet, calm personality. Any advice? JM

Congrats!!!!! No advice on personality as Athena was a year old when we got her. I'm sure you'll get lots of good info from others.

Hope you have a good visit tonight!

Make sure your breeder knows your preference and also ask them to do a puppy apptitude test - if you search the Fiesta litter thread, Kimberly explains the tests that they do at about 7 weeks of age. Good luck and congratulations!

Good luck! The breeder should be a great help, I know mine was. I don't even have my puppy yet and the boards has been very welcoming and sweet. This place is found treasure.

Definitely ask your breeder to do the Volhard Puppy Aptitude Test. (Actually, they shouldn't do it, but get someone unknown to the puppies to come in and do it at 7 weeks old.)

In my experience, I have thought I could see personalities emerging early, but the Voldhard PAT shows you a much better predictor of how they will really turn out. I've been very surprised at some of the results, but they definitely seem to hold true.

Welcome to the forum. I look forward to hearing about your journey in adding your new puppy to your family.

How exciting for you. Welcome to the group. Have a good time tonight and take pictures if the breeder will let you. I agree that you should let the breeder know your preference in terms of temperament.

Now comes the hard part . . . waiting!

Welcome to the forum, JeanMarie. The next 2 mos will be torture for you and all the forum members. We will be right next to you at this very exciting time.

The only personality test I had with Kodi - we had a choice of 3 pups, 1 male and 2 females. Kodi and one of his sister's were identical in color and the other sis was all black. I didn't want an all black pup, so it was down to 2. Kodi's sisterwalked over to us and then walked away. Kodi ran over to us, jumped up and down for my husband to pick him up, and that was how we chose him. Maybe not the best way, but it worked for us.

Wow! Thanks for all the well wishes! I looked up the PAT test and printed it out! Good info, for sure.

I'll take pictures tonight and see if I can post them. Yes, the next couple months will be looong! I live in Seattle, Maryam. Spring is definately upon us here.
