The standoff is on!!!!

You all know how much I LOVE my dogs but we are now having a "who is more stubborn" contest. I am so tired on switching food around. Vinny (weighs 20 lbs) and Lulu (weighs 6.? lbs) are so spoiled! No matter what I give them they like it for a short while then stop eating and I run right out and try something new. Our current thing is raw and wellness puppy kibble but we have decided, again, not to eat. I have canned Merrick in the pantry but they sometimes eat it and sometimes don't and always get the runs from it.
ANYWAY, day before yesterday they ate their raw for breakfast. Wouldn't touch it for dinner or breakfast the next day. A tiny bit of kibble last night. This morning nothing, threw away raw AGAIN.
I have tried about 15 different foods for them.
I am leaving the kibble down and see if they eat and I think that's just how I'm going to keep it. Either eat or starve!! Can you hear my frustration???
ARGHHH!

Carole
Vinny, Lulu, Gabby and Richie too!

I have stopped playing the food game. They eat what I feed them, or they don't eat. Eventually they will eat.

I haven't really run into that problem. I feed Stella Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul dry dog food and just keep her dish full at all times. Some days she eats more than others but I figure like my kids did, she'll eat when she gets hungry. I am much more stubborn than a dog
Hope you get this resolved, it must be very frustrating.

Mellowbo, you are not sounding too mellow right now-- But I also feel as if you are channeling me!!!! Good luck to you. I hope in the end you are more stubborn than they are. I have not been so lucky.

I never had this problem with my kids and if I had I wouldn't have been this patient. I tell my daughter-in-law not to make such a big deal out of it when my grandkids don't eat, they will when they are hungry! Now, I am playing the game with my dogs! Nope, no more, lol.
Thanks for the support dear friends. I'll let you know when Lulu weighs about 4 lbs, lol.

You know I actually feel opposite, I was just saying this the other night. I just give my kids kibble and if they don't eat, they don't eat. The bowl is there when they get hungry. They both have enough energy to run around like mad! I do spice up their life in the morning and add eggs or last night veggies but I have never let them play the game where you pick what you want so they eat.

Hope you find a balance for your and your furkids!

With our first Hav, Zoey....I played the food game. She is still a bit picky, but my daughter who owns her, has stopped the game. I learned not to do that! It's so easy to fall prey to it, thought, isn't it?! Izzy and Doc are both on Canine Caviar with some Solid Gold thrown in for variety and it's not changing. Izzy will skip meals now and again and I worry about her as she is so little. But, she eventually eats and seems fine. Doc hasn't skipped a meal yet and I doubt that he will!!

Amanda, I completely agree with you. I don't know how I got into this food thing. Well, yes I do. I was so concerned about Lulu gaining weight because she is so small and there is so much talk about small dogs and their health. She had one higher than normal fasting bile acids and then 2 normal fasting tests. Paranoia set in.......
I am realizing that she looks healthy, acts healthy and tests healthy so she much be healthy, just small.
She is after all, a beautiful little DOG and she won't run the house anymore. lol.

Been there, done that, feel for you…………We had this discussion in other threads. I gave up on changing foods. Unless Smarty has a violet reaction or gets too weak to walk, she will eat what is in her bowl or go hungry. I have also had it.

We're routing for you mellowbo! We may not be smarter than these little pistols but let's hope we can be more stubborn. Stick to your guns! And come back here if you feel yourself weakening...together we can overcome!!!
