Smile Re-crate training

Hi - I have a 6mo. old female puppy who was crate trained when we got her and she has been using it every night untill 3 nights ago when I accidently fell asleep with her on the bed. She was there all night and must have really liked being there cause when I put her in the crate at night now she " has a fit " ! My question is -- what is the best way to get her to use the crate again? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you can give me. Anne

It sounds like she may have retrained you. You fell asleep 3 nights ago and she slept on the bed. Two nights ago you put her in her crate, she complained, and she got to seel in bed again. I am assuming that happened again last night. I think you might have to suffer a bit and listen to her complain when you put her in her crate. Tell her to go to sleep firmly, but don't take her out of her crate. Eventually she will figure it out. It might help to have her very tired so play a lot before going to bed.

Luckily it was only one night, so it shouldn't take too long. But boy can they be stinkers trying to convince you they don't need to be in there at night. Stay firm.

Wow! That's a tough one. You'll either have to tough it out and listen to LOTS of complaining for awhile, OR...fluff a pillow for your new bedmate

My girl sleeps in bed with us and I wouldn't have it any other way. But I understand the other side, too.

If it has only been three nights, it should be a very quick fix. Cheryl has some great advice. Just stick it out and make sure you're the one doing the training - not her.

How did last night go? Did you stick it out?

They are no fools, ehh. Decision: Warm, fluffy mattress/bed with soft pillows and blankets OR: Cage on the floor. lol, I guess you cant' really blame them for whining.

I do hope you get it resolved soon though!

Question Re-crating

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions. I was really thinking about this today and decided that it really doesn't make any difference if Ashlee sleeps in our bed at night. So far, she hasn't tried to go to the bathroom while she's there and I'm sort of getting use to her being there. I'm sure she likes it much better than the crate. I still want to be able to have her stay in the crate whenever we have to leave her, so I'm hoping that this won't be a problem.

All of the dogs sleep in bed with us and don't have a problem going in crates when we leave the house or if they decide to be clowns and try to keep me awake most of the night.

Gucci will usually start licking on me when she needs to go out at night. Not often, but occasionally if she drinks TOO much water before bed. OR, if I get up for some reason, I'll usually just take her out.

I keep a pee pad in the master bathroom for emergencies. Its came in handy a few times.

She really doesn't bother us at all, she likes sleeping against my back if my back is to her, sometimes, she'll flop down like a bag of rocks on me. OR JUMP on my chest if there is thunder or fireworks.. lol, but its SO cute, It doesnt' even bother me. lol
