Lincoln, Scout, and the Cocker makes 3

We are dogsitting my friend's 6 mos. old cocker spaniel puppy this week...it is WAY more work than when we had Lincoln's brother, Cocoa, here recently, just because he is very much a PUPPY and a different breed (they play differently). In general, Lincoln stays out of the fray while the puppy and Scout "work it out."

The first night, he was barking in his crate like crazy until I moved the crate next to my bed and put my fingers through the door at 2 AM...Thankfully he's well potty trained (no pee accidents, some poo). He is afraid of new adults and will bark and bark and bark if something bothers him...like my vacuum cleaner....

He's a very sweet boy all in all. But this experience of having THREE dogs (compared to having Cocoa here before) has shown me that having THREE can be easy or not so easy, depending on the actual third dog and the dynamics....

So, I think I'm pretty happy with TWO for now!

haha! It seems that Lincoln is the smart one in the house, staying away from the big puppy. I love that second picture of Scout and the puppy... what's his name?

I can understand number three being harder but especially because it's a different breed and you're probably more used to the Hav personality. The cocker really is a cutie, though.

The puppy's name is Jasper. He has HUGE paws. When he bats at Scout, Scout is like, WHOA! Yikes. Jasper is on the small side for a male - about 17 pounds right now. But he feels like a linebacker when you pick him up!

Jasper is my (future) nephew's name!

My aunt has two English Cockers and the female is 16lbs and the male is 28lbs! I was really surprised by the difference in weight between the two (they come from the same breeder too). Maybe it's a normal female vs male weight thing for the breed.

Jasper sure is adorable even if he is a big linebacker.

Jane, Jasper looks like a sturdy little guy! He's very cute, although I'm not a big fan of loud dogs. Good thing pictures don't have noises nor smells

Jane, Jasper is adorable. Yes, six month old puppies are lots of work. But what fun for your guys. I'm sure your boys are having a ball as well.

Oh I have friends with Cockers and one I absolutely adore! But boy oh boy does that little girl have so much energy compared to my girls. She is fun to visit with but I couldn't imagine living with her 24/7. They are so pretty, I forge they are hunting dogs!

I am wondering if the breeder had Jasper debarked before my friend brought him home - his bark is quieter than Scout's and I would expect it would be louder since he is so stocky. Maybe someone else who is more familiar with cockers can tell me if that is normal or not?

But boy, you are right....he does have a bit of doggy odor! He was just bathed a few days ago, but I can already "smell" him!
