ACTIVYL tickplus - Is anyone on this?

Is anyone on ACTIVYL TickPlus? When I went to my vet today to get some Advantix Plus they told me they no longer carry it because it has lost its effectiveness. Now they carry ACTIVYL Tick Plus. Is anyone using this? Has anyone investigated it? I am nervous about trying something new. Thanks!

I havent tried it. I read about it online and thought it might be a good alternative to Advantix, but my vet did not have it. I am in Florida and we have had horrible tick problems this year. Hopefully someone responds as I am curious as well.

It looks like the main active ingredients are the same. Advantix has a slightly lower percentage of it.

Alright - I'm plunging in. We're on our way to Florida next week for the winter and I guess I have no choice if I don't want fleas and other disgusting Stuff. SJ - where are you? We're gonna be in St Petersburg. Sorry to hear that the tics are bad down there. Oh well. Can't have it all!

from Sabine

Yes, the active ingredient is Indoxacarb, a pesticide formerly mainly used on agricultural crops.

Many of the older patents of products like Advantage, Interceptor, etc. expired, so companies are now looking for the next bes thing they can sell to folks as "prescription only".

Personally I would recommend staying with older, proven brands that have an established safety record.

Thank you my darling Dave for checking with Sabine on this. I will take her advice and look for another vet who still carries Advantix. Hugs to you!

I use frontline plus in combination with the preventic collar. It works wonders. The collars repel the ticks. My vet was recommending this combo but since frontline isn't working as well as it used to, he is now recommending sentinel for fleas and the preventic collar for ticks.

Ticks have been awful up here this year as well. The guy who does pest control told me that now that you can but Frontline et. al. without scripts, the manufacturers have lowered the dose of whatever makes them work and that's why they've been less effective. Interesting.
