Gryff in the crate

I started this as a new thread because I wanted to make sure that those of you who recommended me crating Gryff at night saw the results.

I put him in the crate in our bedroom around 9:30 last night and he made one or two small little barks at first and that's it. I didn't hear a peep out of him. It is now 3:20 in the morning. I usually get up during the night and he follows me into my office and goes back to sleep on the floor. I was so curious to make sure he wasn't strangled so I opened the door of the crate. He was fine (of course). I left the door open and he came out to join me in the office where he is right now sleeping on the floor. I'll be awake now for an hour or two and then I'll see if I can put him back in the crate or I'll know if in the future I should just leave him there. I am afraid that if I get up and leave the room for two hours he will bark for me and wake my husband who has had a horrendous cold and has barely slept for three weeks.

I am completely shocked at how well he adjusted to the crate. Let's hope it makes a difference. I miss having him on my bed.

Edit - I went back to be around 5:00. I put him right in the crate and he went back to sleep. It's now 7:00 and we're ready to start the non-growling day.

Check out the two threads: Why is Gryff so mean to my son and Gryff is a brat. The gist is that he's been growling and snarling at my son again and in a very aggressive way. We are trying to put Gryff back in his place.

ahh, i see, back to basics is always a good thing. perhaps you should do some training which will help gryff see your son as the alpha. i know my sisiter in law had issues with their dog and her daughter so the daughter started training the dog and things changed quickly.

Tritia,

I wish I knew! I almost never sleep through the night. You'll find me posting out here at all hours of the night.

Ivy, I'm very proud of you and of Gryff. That just goes to show that dogs NEED boundaries. He feels safe in his crate and in the position you put him-on the bottom. That sounds like great news to me. Keep up the good work and we're all praying for you to see long lasting results soon!
