Dog Waste

Since we have a great thead going on recyling with cloth bags, I thought I'd ask how everyone gets rid of their dog waste.

We pick it up in plastic bags and send it out with the gargage....REALLY BAD IDEA, but I'm not sure what else to do. I am using the recyle bags now, so my plastic supply is dwindling...but when I think of what I'm sending to the landfill or where ever else it goes, I know there has to be a better way....

(Kai leaves some pretty big piles, remember!)

Judy, I do the same as you unfortunately. Although I've seen that in-ground system that looks pretty neat. When you mention Kai, it does make me glad I've got small dogs now. I do have memories from the bigger ones...

For the most part we'll pick up after Duncan and flush it away,or outside while walking him it goes in the garbage.
What else would you do with it anyway?
I also use the plastic bags that we get our weekly advertisements in.THey are the perfect size.
I'm curious to see how others dispose of the waste!!

We do the same too. I do use bio-degradable bags-- doggie pot litter bags-- 200 for 10 bucks-- because we don't have many plastic bags now that I don't eat rice cakes any more.

Melissa posted these flushable poop bags in another thread/ouch $20 for 50 bags-- that's a lot down the toilet...

I could see where the flushable bags might work for the little guys....get a few days worth in each bag....but for Kai...geez, it could get a bit expensive! I know I need to figure out something else, though, so maybe I could at least dispose of the Izzy and Doc's waste by flushing it..Uhg, it is a bit of a dilema

I have a bucket outside that has a top on it. I line it with a plastic bag. I pick up poo every couple of days with latex gloves and throw it in the bag (the lid contains the smell!). I only have to seal up the bag and dispose of it every 4 weeks or so.
i could talk about poo all day... LMAO

I too have a small metal trash can with a lid. I line it with a 13 gallon trash bag, and I scoop poop every day. The bag then goes out in the big trash can for Fridays pickup~

I use brightly colored poop bags. Hot pink, lime green, electric blue. Why, cause nosey neighbors will freak out before my little dog even does anything. This way they can SEE that I have intention to pick it up - the bags are seen from afar. Then I toss it away in some public refuse system or in the trash-can outside from my home.

I am shocked though at the number of folks who do not pick-up waste. (Believe me I am not following folks around), but I do see piles and piles from small dogs, big dogs. Do their owners "not see" the dog going???

thanks for letting me vent.

We found that the delivery newspaper plastic is great because it does not allow any mositure in. Also we feel that we are reusing the bags and they no longer just get used for delivery and thrown out. The bag is like a glove.

OK, but most of us are sending out dog poop to the landfill.....is that a good thing? I don't know....if we flush it, we are using more water...but it would be going through the proper sewer system instead of seeping into our ground water or lasting for thousands of years in plastic....hmmm, this is really a conundrum....
I think I will try to flush the small poo and keep sending the big poo to the landfill until I can figure out something else....I'm pretty sure that they poo at the landfill, but I haven't been caught yet...
