I spent a couple of hours on here this afternoon and printed out letters, in French and English, for pet shop owners in my area. I also printed out some small posters about puppy mills that I will ask the owners of the store I work at, if they mind I put up. I printed out an article about why to choose buying from a breeder than from a pet shop and hope to get that out to the public.
I signed and emailed an online petition to my family and friends for the Quebec gov't. to make this a serious issue and to push for stricter laws about mills in our province. At this point, there are only 3, at most 4, inspectors for the entire province. Pathetic!!!
I also printed some petitions out and will see if I can have those displayed at the store.
I decided to subscribe to a newsletter from a local shelter that I've been supporting through various fund raisers, so that I can be on top of what is going on with rescues. (there is an adorable 1.5 yr. old Shih Tzu mix up for adoption that would be perfect for our family, but we just can't have another dog now).
You know, I get angry and horribly sad and feel helpless. I figure if I can do this, publicize, tell everyone I know (which I've been doing for over a year anyway) , thanks to this latest Oprah show and the publicity it's getting, then it's the least I can do. I read there are 2200 mills in my province alone and it's the highest rate of them in Canada. Not a good stat.
Thank you for the attention you are giving this, Marie. Something good HAS to come of all this suffering and horror.
