One brilliant Hav (a story from a puppy owner)

Nancy and John own the very first Havanese puppy that was born here. They are a wonderful couple and I really enjoying hearing from them. They also make sure to come and visit every litter, which is a wonderful treat for me. Their boy, Buddy, is so very well loved and... well, I'll just share the e-mail I just received from John.

Quote:
Hi, Kimberly: With all that’s going on—new pups, new demands, potty training, poop picking up, etc. you need some entertaining. Here is a recent anecdote concerning your firstborn—Buddy.

Ever since we brought Buddy home, Nancy has tried to convince me that he is the smartest dog ever. I, on the other hand, conceded that the only real sign of intelligence was his ability to feign deafness whenever I called him.

Nonetheless, an incident occurred a few weeks ago that completely reversed my perception:

Nancy’s choral group was rehearsing for a concert featuring choral work by Brahms—to be sung in German, of course. The choral director admonished the singers to go home and work on the pronunciation so that it would be precise and perfect.

Of course, Nancy, being conscientious, would sit down at the piano in the evening and practice—pronouncing very deliberately and enunciating very clearly. And, each evening, Buddy would follow her into the living room and lie down on the rug and carefully watch--his eyes wide and bright, tongue hanging out and his head raised and moving back and forth—sort of in time with the music--as he watched and listened to her practice.

I thought it was very cute but doubted that Buddy knew what was going on—until, one evening, someone rang our doorbell and, as always, Buddy jumped up, and raced to the door. However, instead of his usual “Woof! Woof!”, this time, he very clearly barked “Voof! Voof!”

My perception has changed.

John

What a cute story...and how great that your families take the time to keep you posted on the little ones.

I try hard to keep in touch with Molly's Breeder...I always hope she doesn't mind the e-mails, but we'll always, always be grateful to her for the blessing of Molly.

Maureen, I am very fortunate to be able to touch base with any one of the families very easily, and I love that.

Melissa, I thought you might appreciate that. I laughed out loud as I read it. John's stories about Buddy are hilarious.

I loved that story, Kimberly. Thanks for sharing. Are they willing to post a picture? I would love to "meet" him.

Here's a photo of Buddy as a puppy

I know I have some adult photos from our Havtahava Reunion last summer. I'll have to see if I can pull one up for you.

Um, Kimberly.... 'adult' photos? Maybe you should have a PG-13 rating on this thread?!

I think John should write an article for Our Havanese magazine! I'm sure it would be very entertaining. Thanks for sharing that. "Voof Voof" indeed!
What a gorgeous pup! How old is Buddy now?
