Question about an injury

Kona was outside playing with the kids, and I heard him yelp. I went outside and my daughter said Kona got hurt. She said they were running together and she accudently stepped on his paw. I am not sure about his paw. At first he wasn't playing on it, or walking on it, and holding it up.. but in the last 5 min. he's walking more on it. I don't know if we need to take a trip to the vet before they close at 5:00 or wait till tomorrow and see how he does tonight. What do you all think?
What do I need to look for?

If he's walking on it, my guess is that he's okay. I would take a real good look at it and monitor it for swelling. If he lets you, can you put some ice on it?

Yes, I can put some ice on it. He lets me touch it now, before he wasn't without yelping or trying to bite me. Now he's just babying it more. I am going to keep the ice on it for a while. It has gotten BETTER since the injury about 25 min. ago, but I'd hate to make him wait if he needs meds or something. Poor Kona baby! I gave him a bath, as he got muddy outside, and he let me groom and dry him fine. Aw... i just feel so aweful!

If it isn't broken, which it doesn't sound like, I can't imagine what the vet could do anyway. I'd monitor it.

Aw, poor baby. Kiss it and make it better and I'd watch it tonight also . . . as long as he can walk and it's not swollen. Let us know how he does. Fingers crossed and healing thoughts in your direction.

I would probably monitor it too if he seems to be acting alright, but dig up a name/number of an after-hours vet, JIC. I think they suck up all the attention and may just be milking you for extra lovin'

Seriously, though...I hope he's not hurt!

We took him to the vet. Hubby wanted me to take him to be safe. Vet said it's fine. Not broken and just strained. They went ahead and gave him his shots and dewormer and heart worm meds. whew, that was scary! He said to watch him and he's sure he'll be fine in a few days. He's sleeping now. thanks for your quick responses!!!!

Oh I am so glad that he is ok!! He probably just got a strain or sprain. It always make the night better when you know he was checked by a vet.

Molly sprained her fore leg while she was romping with some pup friends last Fall...and boy! Talk about DRAMA QUEEN...but AFTER the playing was done!

Like you, we rushed her to the vet, and he reassured us that after a day or so Molly would be better...and that we should just keep her rested and not over-doing it.

We left the vet, got home, opened the back door, and the stinker did a RLH around the yard! Hub and I just shrugged our shoulders and laughed!
