Scariest thing ever...

I love taking walks with my pups. We have several routes we choose from during the week, but on Sunday we walk through an office complex because there's no traffic and such a pretty walk, not today. This was Mae's first walk through the park, I usually take Tim but it was such a pretty morning I decided to take both of them. We were almost through the park when I heard dogs barking and then a man scream "NO!" I was scared out of my wits when I saw two Pitbull looking dogs running towards us, full speed and teeth showing. My first reaction was to pick up both my pups but it happened so quickly all I remember was putting them behind me and kicking the first dog in the head. The dog whimpered and backed off right as the man came up with leashes. I didn't even apologize, I just called him an idiot and walked away. Tim and Mae were no worse for the wear, I guess it happened so quick maybe they didn't know what happened. I just imagined one of them getting a hold of Mae, or even Tim, and shaking them, ugh.... SO ANGRY!!!!! Why are people so selfish? I understand that it's nice to take your dogs somewhere off leash but if they aren't controllable or aggressive come on! My guys are sweet as can be and I would even think of letting them off leash especially in an office park right next to a pretty busy street. Some people are such morons! Okay enough venting, I'm just thankful I was able to come home with everyone in one piece. My family couldn't believe I kicked a dog, and now I feel kind of bad, but in those situations I think instincts kick in.

I'm so glad that your dogs are okay. I know how scary that can be, as it happened to me when Bailey and Tyler were young. The dog was a young mix that broke off his run and charged us while we were walking in our neighborhood. My instinct was to scream and pick up Tyler who was the smaller of my two, but the dog was relentless and just kept jumping on me to try to get at Tyler. At one point he got ahold of Tyler's foot and Tyler screamed. All of a sudden, a car pulled up next to me, the door opened and the lady driving yelled at me to get in so that we could get away from the dog. She said she saw my dilemma from inside her house and came to rescue us. She actually drove us home and stated that her neighbor was going to call the dog officer. From that day on, both my guys were afraid of any dogs they saw. Tyler has recently come out of it, but look how long it took.

Don't feel guilty about kicking the dog. Your motherly instinct "kicked" in. Unfortunately, there are many dog owners out there who just don't get it. It's a wonder the man didn't give you the usual, "he's friendly" speech.

Mary (miss you, Bailey-1996-2011 and Tyler-1997-2015)

Very scary! There are so many irresponsible people out there it amazes me sometimes. So glad your two are all right.

I am sorry that happened and glad you are all ok. I carry pepper spray on my key chain and I recommend every one do the same! I had to use on a dog once. A loose pit mix attacked my lab while walking through our neighborhood. I sprayed the dog with pepper spray which stopped the attack. A couple were driving by and they opened their car door and said "get it" - like Sandypaws my dog and I didn't hesitate!

Don't feel bad - you did the right thing. I think anyone of us would do the same thing.
Glad everyone is okay.

I am so glad you, Timmy and Mae are safe! That would've scared me to death! I actually glad you kicked the dog, I mean, that is what stopped him.
