people are funny

ok, maybe it's just me that's funny...

mugs has been enjoying the evo food that i started him on a while ago. he eats it all, pretty much, and it seems to agree with him. that's all good.

but i still had this nagging feeling that he should eat dry kibble so i always left some in a seperate dish for him. he just ignored it.
so i finally took that dish away and stopped offering him the dry. eventually, i have resolved that this is an ok thing to do and now i have started to feel ok that he does not eat kibble.

it was always my need and not his and i was the one who had to just accept that he does not like dry! and that he really does not need it.

i feel better now.

I think our dogs teach us a lot of things and definitely remind us they are dogs!

But my dogs do need comfy pillows, blankets, all the cool new toys!

Joe, you are not alone. I just now too came to terms with it being "OK" for the boys not to eat kibble. Just two days ago, I thought I would try again and sneak some into their food. Well Jasper said thank you by throwing up twice.

But it is not entirely our fault a whole industry has tried to convince us that kibble is the ONLY way to go. And it is just now being discussed that premium canned is maybe better than kibble.

Yeah, Joe..It is YOU that's just funny!!!

Actually, I read just recently that it is better to give your dog some canned for the moisture. My Hav's get mostly dry and a little canned, as I found having them on just canned makes their stools soft..

No doubt they would LOVE to eat just canned..

Good point Missy!
Joe, I still do the same thing. I have a little dish of Evo kibble down just hoping they will like it again. Every now and then Vinny takes a bite or two. It sure would be easier if they would just eat the kibble.

There are so many foods to choose from today. Twenty some yrs ago, there were few. Some of the better companies have very good canned food on the market.

However, my dogs will not eat any of them. They like Little Cesar. So, I continue to give them the LC mixed with very good kibble. I will also give them chicken, beef or turkey in place of the LC. They are very healthy and, good weights and they have great teeth. So, this is how I will continue to feed them until the next food scare, or they get tired of it.

I actually feel pretty bad when we get into the food topic. Norah and Nick just get dry organic kibble softened up twice a day. They eat it fine. I tried switching some can in for their health but it didi nothing but make them not eat and when they did, it upset their stomach terribly. Is it bad for them just to be eating kibble?

Jacklyn, that is really funny--- because I feel bad when the food thing comes up and people say they get their Fromms or Wellness or any other Kibble twice a day and that's that!!! LOL-- I feel I should try to get them to eat kibble.

I think what I am learning from my dogs is every dog and every dog owner is different. When ever I get stressed about the food thing I remind myself that Lassie and Rin Tin Tin grew up on alpo and table scraps.... and they were heroes!!!! I think it is what ever works for you-- and I applaud and am envious of those who can get their dogs to eat kibble. There is a lot research that goes into the kibble and if it is working for your dogs-- I say go for it!!!

Last night Kodi just ate chicken from my chicken chow mein. No kibble. Shelby isn't too much of a people food dog. She would prefer if I just add some of Bailey's Jerky to her food - she would eat anything with Bailey's Jerky added to it.
