Havanese Breed Magazine
Downloaded my new Havanese Breed Magazine today and just wanted to congratulate DaveT on a really good article on the subject of stress. Thanks, Dave, as ever, for so much interesting information. I've read and been a fan of Turid Rugaas, whom you quote, for a long time. And I love your Milan Kundera quote at the end. All very helpful and useful stuff. I have a Coton de Tulear and a Havanese, and your description of how dogs carry their tails differently is so apparent in these two - the Coton, unlike the Havanese, carries his tail low - it'll curl over the back when he's running but it isn't the natural position, which is low. So their signals are different, tail-wise. It would be useful and helpful if humans displayed as many signals as dogs do - perhaps we'd all understand each other better, but maybe the lack of a tail is a handicap! Our ears don't go backwards, we can't generally reach our noses with our tongues, panting would probably just cause hyperventilation and as for many of the other dog signals, well, we'd probably get arrested!! Anyway, thanks so much for a great article.
