Proud Daddy

I wondered if it would ever happen and wish I were home to witness it.

I received the following text from Dana:

"We came in from outside after Gibbs went potty. I (Dana) turned my back to take off my shoes. When I turned around, he (Gibbs) was sitting on the couch smiling. Gibbs can apparently jump onto couch without any assistance."

I'm so proud of my buddy. He jumps a lot when we play and can sometimes get "great air". I knew he could make it if he ever tried and learned to time his jump, but we never saw him try. Too bad I missed it.

Awww, the little man is growing up!

I have a friend with an Italian Greyhound. She puts the dog in an ex-pen at times, and I've watched as the dog repeatedly LEAPS straight in the air, totally clearing (height-wise) the ex-pen, but always landing back inside. I exclaimed that I was amazed that she doesn't get out of the ex-pen. My friend told me that the dog has NO concept of jumping FORWARD, only straight up and down. So she "can't" jump out of the ex-pen, onto the couch, etc. It's probably a GOOD thing because she gets enough height that if she figured it out, she'd be on the counters! Silly dog!

Way to go Gibbs!

Now he'll be jumping all over things. Brody still looks all proud when he jumps up onto a chair. The couch is just part of his routine now.

Sounds like he was proud too! Smiling and all thinking "look what i did"

Just watch out, Vino and Canela love to jump on my chair when I'm not looking – to counter surf, lucky for me its at my computer desk so no food near by. Every once in awhile Vino “the little thief” will steal a paper or receipt but he always gets caught.

When I got Maddie I had no idea it wasn't good for them to jump up and down on things. I made steps for her to get up on my chair. She was only eight weeks old and loved the game. It didn't take her long to just jump up without the stairs. I was lucky she didn't want to jump off my bed until she was older.
The chair ended up being ruined so I gave it to her.

Go Gibbs, no turning back now! I resorted to getting steps for the couch. Timmy always wanted up but would never jump down. Putting Tim on the couch as a puppy was as good as putting him in his expen LOL. Now since we have the stairs Mae has climbed them from the day we brought her home at eight weeks. Fortunately both of them also use them to go down too, I have laminate flooring which I think is hard and slippery. I bought Tim a really nice bed for his first birthday and he barely uses it because he'd rather sleep on the couch. I actually have both dogs and the two cats on the couch with me as I type this, the couch is definitely choice real estate in our house.

Funny you mention stairs. I bought stairs for our couch in the living room and one set for the bedroom http://www.helpyourpets.com/bearstairsteps.html and I even made sure they had barriers on the side as precaution since our bed is pretty high. The couch is standard high, anyways, Vino and Canela both know how to use the stairs but they rather jump off and on. While my two Vizslas act all old taking their sweet time going up and down the stairs. A bunch of wierdos

Gibbs is the opposite. He jumped off the couch when he was really little. We'd lift him on the couch with us and he'd sit with us for about 1 minute before jumping down.
