How bizarre is this?

I have had quite a day! I was about to send the final payment for my little boy (through Paypal) but decided it would be prudent to make a payment on my card first so I wouldn't be seeing an astonomical balance . I often pay online and when I went to their site I got a message that I couldn't access the account online. I had to call their customer service number.

I thought it was a simple glitch and would be fixed momentarily. Instead I was told there was a fraud watch on my account and they asked if I'd made two very large purchases on e bay recently. I said no and began to shake. I had a card cloned years ago and it took me two years with the help of an attorney to straighten it out and get my credit back on track.

I started to shake and thought, "oh no, not again." Well, they told me they were going to close the account and send papers for me to fill out for a fraud report. I should also tell you I told her the only large payments I'd made were to buy a puppy. I told her to whom those payments went.

Fast forward a couple of hours and something made me decide to call them back. It appears that the first person I spoke to screwed up and told me the purchases were for the auction when in fact they were to the breeder. Then my mind started racing and I thought, "OMG, what if they didn't pay her???" and now I can't send the final payment because they closed my account. Yikes! She's going to think I'm a total deadbeat.

Needless to tell you I've been really upset and this might delay (or worse) my getting Bailey this week. Please keep your fingers crossed that I can get this straightened out -- in time.

Oh Geri...how upsetting! Paypal can be so difficult and getting stuff resolved with them can be like trying to wade through MUD. In my experience, they've eventually gotten things straightened out, but sometimes it takes a ridiculously long time. I think your breeder will understand. Did you call her?

I'm glad at least your account wasn't breeched! Sorry you have to deal with this!

Geri, I'm sorry this is all happening. Have you thought about just opening a new account? I know that I have 3 paypal accounts hooked up to different e-mail addresses. so maybe you can do something like that?

You know the funny thing is when I got Milo she suggested PayPal. I never would have thought of it. That time I send a check throught PP the same night as she and I talked. The money was extracted from my account the next day, but it took her about 10 days to get it. I almost didn't get Milo then because she didn't know me. I faxed her copies of the statement from the bank showing the funds were released and still it was a problem. Because of that I got the credit card, thinking it would be faster. And now this.

I'm going to have to overnight her a payment now to hopefully not stall Bailey's arrival. This is not fun.

I asked them why they had my account on fraud watch and they said it was because I usually didn't charge large amounts. I guess I should be thankful that it was flagged, but the timing stinks.

Yikes! Could you just fedex a check? By the time you figure this out, it might be easier!

You never know with these credit card companies and paypal (there is even a website, paypalsucks.com for all those horror stories <g>).

We went Christmas shopping one year and when we came to the checkout the clerk gave me the special deadbeat look as in "Maaaaaaam, the card was declined". There was no way the card was maxed out, we always pay it off and there is a ridiculous limit on it. We used another card and called the bank when we came home. I guess there was a possible fraudulent charge on there (3 days before) and "for our protection" they closed the account. Well, it would have been nice to put in a little phone call to us, wouldn't you think???

That's what I said. I asked why they didn't tell me.

Geri, how frustrating. I do as little online as I possibly can. Too many chances for screw-ups. Can you just get a cash advance and take her a cashier's check instead.
