Gryff, I'm leaving you...

...but only for the weekend. I am leaving Friday to visit a friend in Ohio and I'm leaving Gryff with my DH and son for three whole days. I think it will be a really good chance for them to all bond. I know Gryff will be freaking out, but it could do wonders for the overall family pack. If I'm not there to feed him, take him potty, play with him, treat him, train him, provide affection, etc then everyone else will have to really step up to the plate. It isn't that they don't do those things, but Gryff doesn't react with the same love he gives me.

I will let you all know how the weekend turns out. Should be a good experiment.

Boy can I sympathize ... Three days without your baby is a long time but we should be shot for what we're doing to Lucy: Next week we leave on a three-week vacation to ALASKA!! (Planned for nearly a year and we were going to wait to get a puppy until we got back but then well, Lucy happened and we had to have her.) And guess who she gets to stay with? Her Shih-Tzu cousins (the ones in the video) ...

I expect a rougher and tougher Lucy when we get back ... And believe me, at 3-months-and-change, she's already entering the terrible twos ... Obstinate and headstrong but adorable as all get-out. So ... Yknow it's always tough to leave 'em (haven't left Lucy for more than 90 minutes since we've had her) and we anticipate talking about her the whole time.

We will have a list of instructions longer than any I'd ever left for my child for while we're away. In the long run, it'll be good for them and their socialization ... It's our hearts that will suffer the most ... LOL

I've left Gryff before in the care of my friend with her family and their rottweiller. He loves them and I am very comfortable when he's with them. We are going to Vegas/Bryce/Zion/Grand Canyon for a week in July and he'll be with them. What's different about this weekend is that he'll be home without me.

I wish I was going to Alaska. I really wanted to go this summer, but I lost out to the vacation plans I just mentioned. You are going to have a wonderful time. Try not to worry about Lucy. I'm sure she will have a great time in doggie playland.

Ivy, have a great trip and relax. This is probably the best thing you could do for Gryff and your family. He will have to be nice to them, because he won't have you to rely on. I hope you have lots of minutes on your cell phone, because you will be making lots of calls.

Have a nice trip, Ivy!

I find when I've done that in the past, Gucci is a bit 'depressed', but she does focus more on my daughter or husband! It'll be great for them all.

Cheryl, I used to live just outside of Cleveland too. I lived in South Euclid for a few years (fifth grade - tenth grade). I am going to visit my childhood friend who is now in Columbus.
