Memorial for Susan Nelson, Havanese Breeder and Mentor

Sue Nelson touched many of our lives and helped us with our dogs. There is a special memorial event being held for her on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at La Mirada Regional Park, 13701 Adelfa Avenue, La Mirada, CA 90638. It starts at 10:30 a.m.

Bring photos and memories of Sue and her dogs for sharing with others. If you have memories and cannot attend, email [email protected]

Here is a photo of Sue sharing her love of havanese with a young girl. Sue wanted to make sure that havanese went to homes where they were treated with respect. She did a tremendous amount of educating of potential owners. Sue's wish was that contributions be made to Havanese Rescue in her name.

Thank you for posting this, Linda.

Sue was an amazing woman. She gave so much and was always gracious. I enjoyed talking with her. Two of my good friends were very close friends of hers and lost an amazing pillar in their lives.

Does anyone remember how old Tippy was the last time Sue did freestyle dancing with her? I'm not positive, but I think she was 13 years old at the 2005 National Specialty and still acted like my two-year old.

Sue was also the one who single-handedly got Rally-O going in 2005 for our National Specialty. She was always there willing to answer questions online and then held a private training session for anyone who wanted when we got into Chicago. She gave firm tips to make sure that anyone could succeed.

Tippy is 14

I believe that Tippy is fourteen or maybe 13. I'll have to ask David.

Sparky passed a week after we lost Sue. He was quite the alpha male all those years. Sue held classes regularly in her yard for all of us to learn agility, rally, and obedience. Sparky always was the honored alpha among the dogs.

David has Tippy, Buster, Sandy, and Tina. He still has her old email address if you would like to write to him.

only one left

Since we lost Sue, her Sparky passed away a few months later. A year later, Sandy passed. A few months ago, Tippy passed away at 17...and just this morning, Tina passed at age 10. That leaves only Buster left with David...

I didn't just get havanese, I got a lifestyle!

How sad for him. For them, a sweet reunion with her. God bless him on this sad day.
