havanese boy needs a home....

My sister in law's aunt has discovered she is allergic to her little boy..he's only 7 mo's old. He is purebred, and supposedly very snuggly, sweet and potty trained. Oh, how i wish I had room right now! But we are in transition, so it wouldn't be the best situation for him.

We are located in Western Washington, and I know she won't want to ship him and would like to meet anyone interested. She really loves this boy, but her asthma is just getting in the way. If any one in this area is looking, please pm me... and I'll pass on your info.

thanks so much...

Allergies!!! Did she try prescription meds or asthma meds? I had to do that when I was living with non havs and it really helped... I hope you find him a home

Oh my, how sad!! I am so surprised that the allergies are actually caused by the purebred Hav!! But please, keep bumping this thread up, as I am sure there are people in your area, or close enough that can give him a wonderful home!! Best of luck to you= I am on the other side of the country so I would foster him and find a home if I were closer!!!

you know I have terrible allergies and I am ok with my two boys -- but if I get into something that makes me bad (spring and fall or visit a cat) -- the boys just put me over the top-- medication or no. So I understand that it could happen-- you can't live your life on the emergency inhalers. I am terribly sorry for your Sil's aunt-- she must be very disappointed -- but I am sure that pup will be homed in nano-second.

Oh just one other thing to offer her--- I was very allergic while they were puppies, to learn that urine is a bad allergen, so when I was constantly picking up pee and it was all over the pups I too wheezed. I kept them really clean and once they were trained I no longer had a problem.

Has she contacted her breeder?
I don't know what her contract states, but many breeders want the dog back when it doesn't work out and then they will find another home to place the dog into. She should double check her contract to make sure she isn't obligated to return the dog to the breeder rather than finding another home herself. I'm sorry to hear she's having problems. It's a bad allergy/asthma season right now! Is the dog's coat cut short? Perhaps it's not the dog but outdoor allergens coming in on his coat? If it is she could cut him short and keep him well bathed and it might help.

I am so sorry to hear about this. I can't help with this, but I know from having allergies myself, that doctors are real quick to tell you to get rid of your animals and not so quick to help you live with them.
I feel so bad for this lady and the puppy. This would break my heart.
I know someone on here will help the little guy get a new loving home.
Sending our love.

Debbie,
There are several very good suggestions here and Nancy is right the Dr.'s are quick to tell you to get rid of your animals when allergies are a problem. I have placed several Havanese with people with really bad allergy problems and have yet to have one of them come back. Is there a way to make sure he is purebred and if he is maybe there is something else that is causing the problem. Is there a way he could just spend two or three days with you and see if she gets relief, then try bathing him is the shampoo she uses and bring the boy back to her. There could be several reasons she is so bad right now and maybe it really doesn't happen to be the dog that is the problem. Maybe a shorter haircut so he picks up less pollen when outside, anything like that. Good luck and I know you will find a really great home for him if the breeder doesn't take him back.

thanks everyone. so far I haven't heard back from my sis in law... it's her aunt, so I am not aware of all the details.

I did suggest she call the breeder FIRST, as I know there are contracts. But I guess one thing that happened is that the breeder had sold this boy, that person backed out and so she gave my sil's aunt the puppy for free. So this will be his third home, doggone it. I feel bad for him. I have no pictures at all. Probably a good thing, as I would want him for ME!

I will get back on here and update as soon as I hear more. Shelly is aware that there are people on here interested, but isn't sure her aunt will give him up to a stranger...understandable, but I don't know if she's found any friends or family willing to take him.

Thanks again for all the input.... prayers for a good home would be appreciated!
