Camera Deal?

I have been looking at getting a new SLR camera and was looking at the Nikon D40, I came across this and thought it might be a good deal? I keep seeing the camera with only 1 lens for $500+. This special gives you the 18-55 and 55-200 lens, a gadget bag and a free all in one printer for only $550.

My DH keeps telling me to stop hesitating and just buy the **** thing but I just want to make sure I will be completely happy with my choice.

Wow, that sounds like a great deal. Is Ritz Camera a reputable company? Do you know anything about them? Do a check through the BBB if you can. If everything turns up OK, I would jump on that deal.

Um,

My only thought...is that I bought my camera from Ritz and have had NOTHING but problems with it, of course..its a different brand and camera..but Ritz is AWFUL about repairs. I've taken it in 3-4 times and I swear, they just stick it under the counter and give me back the same camera in a week w/o touching it.

We also bought another camera from them for my daughter that was defective, they wouldn't replace it.

We vowed to not buy from them again, but that's just my experience with Ritz..other people may not have the same problems with them as we do locally.

not sure where you are buying your camera from but I purchased on to use for our year book at school at bluestripephoto.com They were very inexpensive compared to other places. We ended up going with a fuji and have had good results but the one you are looking at may be a good deal. I just know that the prices at bluestripe were cheaper than anywhere else. Susan

Thanks Kara, we also have a few Ritz stores around us. I'm not sure I would ever use them for repair though, being in the repair service I always go directly to the OEM or look for an Authorized repair service location. I just checked and Ritz is not on Nikon's list of ARS.

I checked the BBB and they have so many different locations listed some good some bad.

Susan I couldn't find bluestripephoto.com

I'm a huge fan of Nikons. I have a D100 that I bought in early 2003 that still works great and I have no intention of replacing. However, I would not buy from Ritz. I do not recommend the Epson printer either. The print quality is alright, but they use too much ink. It cleans the print heads with ink and photo ink is not cheap. I would recommend an HP printer separately.

I have a 70-300 lens and I hardly ever use it. People and dogs run back and forth and sometimes they get too close for that lens and it would require backing up which isn't always possible or swapping the lens (takes too long and you can't do it in a hurry). The other problem is that focusing becomes a challenge at greater focal lengths. I'd stick w/ the 18-55 and then make a lens purchase once you figure out what kind of lens you need. I have a fixed 105mm macro that I LOVE for portraits. It's my favorite lens.

I like B&H a lot
and this other store was a localish one for me, but they do ship and they have the D40 for same price as BH

Leeann, today's Target circular has a D40 with one lens, 18-55 mm, for $499.95 and you get a $50 Target gift card with purchase.

Wow! Great shots. I want the Nikon too, but I want the 10 megapixel and the VR lens.
