The Only Dog

I had to smile when I saw Missy's thread "Please stop with the puppies." I am so smitten with all these new arrivals! It takes every bit of will power I have not to succumb to MHS fever. I remind myself that Cazzie is enough for me. What would I do with two? Have to take two out in the middle of the night? Have to clean up two throw-ups? Have to pick up the results of two shreddings? And what would I do when we travel, smuggle #2 into the motel?

And Cazzie is definitely THE DOG around here. Would his heart break in jealousy? Would he make his mark all over the place?

Cazzie is fated to be an ONLY DOG. But I know there are other ONLIES out there. How do you cope with MHS??

You would never know the answers to those questions until you get one more!!!

.......You would never regret having two.....They are so happy to have a buddy. I used to think that it is double the work but it really isn't as much as I thougt. Just go for the two.

Best, Poornima

My husband insists Gryff will be an only. This is my sinister reason for having him come with me to Laurie's playdate!

ha ha ha Suzy!!! you get another Hav of course!!! Just kidding, many times I have wished we kept Jas an ONLY DOG. Mostly when we travel. The other costs we can handle but boarding two dogs is another week of vacation.

Sometimes I think Jassy would have been happier as an ONLY DOG. But he plays more than he used to and that is a good thing.

I thought the same thing when we just had Ginger.I thought she will think I do not love her anymore,be really mad at me..but three dogs later she is just fine and loves us even more!!!!! It has balanced her out belonging to a pack. I think there is nothing wrong with just one!!!!!!

Missy, that's an interesting point of view! DH and I were often nervous to think about the time if we ever had to board Benji alone someplace other than his breeder. That was one of the reasons we decided to get a second one so that they would have company. I agree that the cost of boarding is quite high for two dogs. I just hope we would find someone very nice and reliable when we move.

Well, Suzy, Kubrick is an "Only" right now, but I can tell you that's not our plan for long. We're really hampered by living in a one bedroom apartment and that's the only reason we haven't gotten number two yet. FH and I are both looking forward to getting another one. I think that an only dog is good if you travel a LOT. I can see having two being a bit of an issue, but then again, a lot of people do it, so not sure about that. I can't think of any negatives to getting another one, so I guess I'm not a good person to ask.

Suzy when you figure it out let me know so I can sit down with my DH and explain it to him, He thinks we should have a whole house full of havs running around.

Poornima, I still get nervous about "them" now being alone. that part is a bit easier-- but now it's two dogs that can get emotionally ruined for life. Just kidding. We have found someone who makes us feel OK but it is not perfect. Always on the look out.

But we really hate leaving them. We have so procrastinated on planning a summer vacation this year because of it. I hope we will still be able to find a place. We are looking to bring them this year. But because I have allergies I have to look at the places that don't allow pets and then convince them to let us take them.

Some how, trips were just easier with one. But don't get me wrong. I love having them both. They are my yin and yang. I couldn't have one without the other. And I know, when Cash was in the hospital a few months back, Jasper was looking for him and kind of out of sorts. So he would mis his Bro.
