shipping a dog?

what's involved in shipping a dog?
i have never done it and am looking into it now for the first time.

i imagine the shipper would need to check out pricing from their end...
is it generally very expensive, like a plane ticket or less?

next step is a google search.

thanks for any info.

I just spent $300 for Bailey. It was a VIP flight, don't know how much more that is.

Driving

I only have experience driving to get mine. The first one I did overnight...and the second one I did the whole thing in one day. Talk about insanity...ten hours both ways.

See what we do for our dogs?

Good luck with your new addition.

no new addition yet.

i got an email from someone at hri answering my question about the adoption process and time lines and transportation issues was part of the answer.
i'm just trying to figure out if i could afford to offer to pay for a plane trip plus the (as yet undecided) adoption fee.

buddy

And I can say this from experience, no matter which dog you do get as a buddy for your other dog, two havanese are really good together. I now work full time and am able to come home at lunch. My dogs are fine. I would never have been able to work with just one.

I have a flex schedule so my husband is home some days when I am at work. They are happiest though when I am home. He says some days they wait at the top of the stairs for me even when he is home. Talk about dedicated.

They are velcro dogs.

I remember someone talking about a flight attendant who would also fly with your dog for a fee. If you are thinking of shipping, you should look for the best airline for a direct flight too. Or do you have any frequent flyer miles saved up so you could go there?

Good luck and keep us posted!

Flights do seem to vary quite a bit. I had my dog flown from Florida not quite 2 years ago.He was fine and did really well. The stewardesses played with him and they put him in with them. I paid the breeder 200.00 to ship. These prices do vary alot though.

i prefer not to fly, it seems so unnatural to me. i have flown and may again but it's never my first choice.
if air shipping is in the 2 or 3 hundred dollar range i would certainly consider it an option, in fact, i just emailed jane at hri to let her know that. anything to help the process along.

we have very short summers here and it would be so much nicer to get a dog while we all could enjoy more outdoor time.
winters are long and get be harsh especially for these little guys.

kinda funny, we have 3 local breeders of havanese and i'm gonna pay to ship a pup here...
