An ex-pen Houdini

Hello everyone! It's been a few weeks since I introduced Rosie and myself -and I've enjoyed lurking and reading everyone's excellent advice. And we really are sorry to have missed the NE playdate - hopefully next time! Which leads me to my question. We bought Rosalita an ex-pen - it's a Go-Go Pen? It's 24 inches high, which we thought was plenty enough. However, a few weeks ago she began suddenly showing up OUTSIDE the pen.
My 12 year old has since spied her hopping up, then literally balancing on the pen's wire edge, and hopping out. Is this typical? Were we dopey to get one that's only 2 feet tall? And has anyone run into this before? I'm considering putting something over the top, plastic grid fencing or something - but I'm just not sure. We're still working on housebreaking, and I am trying to keep her contained during the day, but I'd rather not rely on her plastic crate. It sounds like you folks have encountered just about every Hav problem there is - so I'd be grateful for your advice! And - I'm attaching the freshest photo of the clever little girl, taken about half an hour ago. Thanks for this terrific forum!
Sharon

I don't have any advice I just wanted to say Rosie is so very adorable!!!!

And I do recall reading about some Houdinis here...Lina maybe? And someone has a hysterical you tube video of their Hav jumping out. So I know you will get some good advice. Or if not advice, commiseration, lol.

But before you fix the problem could you take pictures or video? I want to see that sweet thing escape

Welcome. If you check the "Houdini" thread, you'll see a great video on dog escapes. Your Rosie is adorable - love the latest photo. And yes, a top on your puppy pen will help or adding an extension. But if she wants out, and has already learned to climb, a top or her crate is best for complete safety.

Welcome to the forum Sharon and Rosie! She is such a cutie! I would suggest you NOT use the wire expens. I bought a plastic baby pen for Kubrick and it's impossible for a climber to climb over it since it doesn't have anywhere for them to hold onto properly, like they do with the wire ones.

JB sells tops for expens. I've known a few climbers.

Thank you all!! At Tom's suggestion, I found the JB ex pen top on Amazon and we will probably try that. Meantime, we'll try to catch Rosie and her high wire act on video - if we can, I promise to post it! Thanks again!

Lina,
Just this week we've found Hank escaping out of this pen (we bought two and combined them for a larger area) !!!:

I caught him out of the corner of my eye and he nearly cleared the 36 inches with one leap... had his front legs over the top and kicked his rear legs up and over... I wish I had it on video. Technically, he didn't climb the pen. The next day our family went out for a couple of hours and left him in the pen, and we found him at the front door entrance waiting for us... Needless to say, we've been giving Hank free reign of the main floor in the house now. At least it took him nearly til he was a year old to have the rear leg strength to escape. Maybe we should get this little furball into agility

'Lo

Hank, that's true... it doesn't help with jumpers, but at least with climbers it does.

Oh and you should definitely do agility with Hank! Kubrick is starting in a month.

I have a good friend from college originally from Ridgewood. I spent a week there with her and her family right after we graduated and it was lovely. I remember lots of trees and hilly neighborhoods. Your little "houdini" is beautiful.
