Devices to Stop Barking?

Has anyone had any experience or success with any of the products they sell to stop your dog from barking?

Here is a link to a comparison chart of different products:

I am wondering if these REALLY work. Scout will bark when people come to the door and has taught Lincoln to join in. The canine chorus is deafening! Help!

Well I do not know about that stuff but my mom uses a squirt bottle to spray at her german short haired pointer and it works. I know what you mean about the barking my four bark when we come home and let me tell ya they are loud. My cocker starts it then they all chime in...she can be quite annoying just ask Leeann!!!

I use the spray bottle w/water, but they really don't mind that too much. I have resorted to using a little spray of Binaca mouth spray. I have never sprayed it directly at their face, just in that direction. Now when they see it, they stop barking. They don't like the smell.

any device that uses some sort of shock is inhumane.

get an empty plastic bottle and put some pennies in it.

when the dogs bark, say nothing but shake the bottle.
repeat as often as needed till they stop barking.

it took mugsy 2 days to figure out that when he barked this really bad noise happened.

i wish he was as fast with the house training...

My best tool for this is one of those $1 plastic lemons. All it took for Belle was two squirts. The lemon has been empty for years and now once in a while it makes a guest appearanece!

I am wondering if any of those devices that emit an ultrasonic sound (that the dog hears) work or not. Since I can't hear it, ha ha, I can see how these devices could be kind of a trick

The problem with the water bottle, penny can, etc. is that I can't both greet people at the door AND spray/penny can, etc. at the SAME time. It gets very chaotic trying to let people in, greet them, spraying the dog (and not missing), greeting, chatting, spraying.....well, you get the picture....

So, no one has tried one of the sound devices? I do not like the idea of a shock collar or similar type of thing.

yes, I have the one that sprays lemon scent. It does seem to work, to an extent~~ but the dog has to wear it all the time, which in my house (with my big barker having a full show coat) I can't always do. Plus it lets them barke once or twice, then gives a spray. If the dog doesn't stop immediately, it's a couple more barks before it goes off again. Or, if you are Heidi, you learn to "low bark" so it doesn't go off, yet she can still make a racket....*sigh*
I also have one of those sonic-hearing kind. Hate that one, because if one dog barks, all the dogs get the icky sound, which isn't fair in my book! It would be fine in a one dog household~

Jane,
I have one similiar to the first one (with the horn) coming out--I bought it through Pet Edge. It doesn't work.....or at least for Vinnie and my neighbors dog it didn't.It was outdoors..

At first I thought it helped----but I'm thinking it was a waste of money at this point.

i bet you can do it!

besides, it's worth a bit of pain now vs. a lifetime of barking dogs.

i have neighbors with dogs that bark at everything and occasionally they come out to yell at the dogs, they never took the time to properly train them and they all suffer.
