Missy, first you teach the sit by luring them with a treat. Going up with the treat and over their head a little so they set their bum on the floor. Then treat them. After they have that down I make logan do this for any treats, like when he goes potty, wants to come in the house, wants his food. You have to be patient as the little ones have a hard time sitting still. Then have him sit for a few seconds. Our trainer has us hold them in that position for 10 seconds (which is long!!) Once they are sitting regularly for you then say sit, and stay and place your open hand in front of their face.(with your fingers pointing to the floor). She says to get them to stay for 10 seconds or more, and then try to turn your back on them - haha --Logan has not gotten to the point where he will stay once we turn away, he wants to be looking in our eyes. So I say sit then stay to all 3 at meal time, once they sit in the same spot for a while, then I put their bowls down. Does this make sense? I know I am rambling a little. Sorry.
