Getting 2 Havanese

Hi, everyone. I'm a newbie and I was hoping to get some advice. After putting my shih-tzu to sleep due to advanced renal failure, I decided to purchase a havanese. The puppy is ready for her new home but I decided to have the breeder keep her for a few more weeks until I get back from vacation. Well....about 10 days after I purchased one havanese, I decided to purchase another one from the same breeder. Both puppies will be delivered on June 14th. I am getting a male and a female (not litter mates) and I have no intentions of breeding. I can't wait to see my new babies. Any advice for me as a new owner of two Havanese?
Thanks !!

Congratulations! If you've never had a hav before you're in for a delightful surprise. They are so sweet and loving and fun to behold. I love the idea of two. I've done that more than once and always found it great for the dogs and for me.

I would work hard from the start on potty training since that can be an issue with some of these. It's taken me a long time with my first, but my second seems much easier in that arena.

You'll get a lot of advice here. The only payment required is to post pictures when you have them to satisfy our never ending appetites for new puppy breath.

It's not long now, though the time might pass slowly for you. Good luck with your new babies.

First, to the forum!

I only have one, so I don't have any advice from a Havanese standpoint, but my shih tzus are 10 days apart in age. I would suggest getting 2 for each pup. It's easier to take them out one at a time to potty.

Can't wait to see pics of your new babies!

Welcome to the forum! Wow, two puppies at once. I guess it's like having twins. You will be very busy. I think the most important thing I have learned is "consistency" in everything you do, from potty training to grooming. I think it is even more important when you are raising two puppies at the same time, especially littermates. Havs are very smart and will learn fast as long as you are consistent.

Good luck and hope we get to see lots of pictures.

Welcome....I only got one at a time, so I won't be much help. I would read through some of the past threads on potty training, sleeping arrangements, etc...there is a wealth of information here!
Can't wait to see pictures!!

Welcome to the forum. My words of advice- get a lot of rest while on vacation cause you will have double the training!

I have a male and female as well. If you have no intention of breeding than I'd make you spay/neuter early as they are very determined to get to each-other when a female comes into heat. Norah and Nick are both spayed/ neutered and we have had no problems (humping, marking etc.) Read up on training/ house breaking and enjoy every minute! Raising 2 at once is twice the fun, trust me! (Plus all the house accidents, chewed furniture, and bad manners are all over at around the same time!) Good luck!

Thank you all for the advice. I have done so much research on Havanese and I have not yet read one negative thing. I love this website and after reading all of your stories and seeing all the cute pictures, I am even more excited about my new babies. I can't wait to share my pictures with you.

Post pics as soon as you can! What color are your babies? Names? (Jake and Jazz is one guess)
