Yuck! Cocotini is a poop eater!!!

Well, Cocotini is settling in nicely except with potty time. Not only is she trying to be sneaky about pooping- she's EATING It!!! I even caught her with a piece of Truffle's poop in her mouth! As if this isn't bad enough, she's a kissy girl and I'm not too interested in poopy kisses. Please help- How do I get her to stop???? thanks, Jocelyn

There are a number of things that are suggested on various threads. The most effective remedy I heard is to add pineapple juice to their food. I have never used it but someone who has should respond to you. There are some prescription medications available at the vets but my vet said that they are not that effective after awhile.

Lizzie occasionally eats Benji's poop. Thankfully, I know his times for pooping and clean up right away. That is the most effective strategy for me. I think some dogs outgrow the poop eating habit and I hope Cocoti does too.

Best, Poornima

Oh my goodness, poopy kisses When we fostered Gigi I noticed that she did that once, but I was very very diligent about not allowing her to. I know that there are some dietary ideas that others have experienced. Hopefully you will get her to stop!

oh Jocelyn. I am sorry. And I understand. Cash is a poop eater. I have tried everything. The pineapple worked for a while-- as did adoph's meat tenderizer. the Deter and the Forbid did nothing for us but have worked for others. What seems to have worked best for us was altering his food and giving him a bit more. We found that he does better on higher protein. There is one theory that they aren't getting the nutrients they need. Oh and most importantly being vigilant and not letting him get to it-- offering treats instead.

but here is a list of the things to try:

crushed pinapple or juice (1/2 tsp of crushed)
pumpkin
sprinkle food with meat tenderizer- (no msg)
sprinkle food with Pro Zyme (I do this it is good for them anyway)
deter, forbid, etc as directed
while on a walk sprinkle with bitter apple or hot sauce and let Coco taste.

good luck. I never thought I could love a poop eater-- but I do. Although I have to say Cash is not a kisser.

Well I know how you feel. My little Betzie enjoys some fresh poop as well. She does not eat her own just Lizzie or Ginger's. We just pick it up right after they go...hopefully they don't go at the same time. That has happened before and there is a stand down between me and the shovel and Jillee getting the poop. I hate it but I still love them all. I have tried it all..deter,pineapple juice, meat tenderizer, and hot sauce. Hopefully she will out grow it soon.

Posh is also a poop eater/poop face kiss you on the lips type of girl...I know, you'd never guess it from her sweet face! She doesn't eat her poop, rather any other animal poop she finds. I actually almost started a thread on this a couple of days ago. I wash her face, brush her teeth, and watch her carefully outside as it's not her poop she's eating! Good luck and we are with you. If it's not poopy butt we're cleaning, it's poopy breathe we're breathing. This must be true love!

thanks, for the suggestions. It is nice to know I'm not alone. I am trying to be diligent about getting it up, but she is so sneaky. she goes and hides in a corner (different ones) and knows that I don't want her to eat it so tries to turn even while she is pooping to eat it before I can get there. I thought as an older pup she'd be better trained.
She is a voracious eater, so I think she's getting enough nutrients, but I'm going to try and change her food gradually as her poops have not been firm. Not sure what the problem is with that, and she poops alot!! I guess she just keeps recycling it. Well, I have some pineapple juice so I guess I'll try that first tomorrow. Jocelyn
