Hello!

Hello! My name is Jackie, I live in East Grand Rapids, MI. I have a husband who is allergic to dogs, and a sixteen year old daughter who begged for a dog for her birthday. My 13 yr old son's friend has a Havanese that we took care of for a weekend. My husband found he was less allergic to Maya than other dogs. We now have a 9 month old fawn sable Havanese named Sophie, who makes us laugh every day. If I keep up on the dusting and vacuuming, it is more tolerable for Tom. Sophie loves to give kisses, which unfortunately for Tom, gives him hives (but he still loves her to death!). I am learning all about tear staining, grooming, dancing, paper shredding, runlikehell....and all the other funny and funky things about my Hav.

We purchased Sophie as a pet, with no intention of breeding her. The woman who sold her to me was going to keep her to breed, but she lost her job and decided she needed to sell her. I thought I would be receiving papers with the dog, but I only received papers to allow limited AKC registration. Is it still worth it to send in the papers for limited registration?

As Sophie has grown, I feel a little guilty that I got her spayed. I think she is a great example of the breed and would have loved to show her. I would still love to meet with knowledgeable Hav owners and get their opions on how much she matches the breed standard.

Here's
Since that video was taken, I have switched to organic/holistic dog food and bottled water. Her tearstains are going away! I am trying to keep her in full coat but it has been tough keeping up with the mats! Any tricks? I look forward to posting on this forum.

P.S Sophie's grandma loves her too (my mother-in-law) and would love to get access to any Hav embroidery patterns. She is very artistic, an excellent sewer and has her own high tech embroidery machine. I'm sure I could talk her into producing some beautiful quilt squares!

Welcome to the forum first! What an adorable little girl I would do the limited in case you ever decide to show in rally, obedience, agility. AKC trials are a lot easier to come by

Hi Jackie and Sophie! Your young lady is very adorable, love how she tries to 'kill' her toy, LOL. You will find lots of valuable info here, incl. blowing coat or matting advice. Just do a search and you'll find a bunch of threads.

Welcome to the forum. If you are seriously interested in breeding - why don't you start attending dog shows and get to know the breed standard? When it's time for a second pup you can get a show quality one - show it to it's championship and eventually with a mentor and lots of education/seminars, etc you can decide if you want to breed. It's a lifelong commitment - all good breeders have contracts that will take a puppy back for life.

Sophie is a darling girl - her coloring reminds me of my MeMe and Miss Posh.

Hi Jackie! Welcome to the forum.

I'd encourage you to send in the limited registration anyway, especially before she turns a year old. The limited registration allows you to do EVERYTHING with AKC except Conformation (and registering offspring).

welcome Sophie and Jackie!!! Sophie is a beauty. I too am severely allergic to all animals but Havanese and found my allergies have lessened as they have aged. hopefully your DH will get better and better too. I even stopped getting hives from Jasper's kisses.
