Hello! My name is Jackie, I live in East Grand Rapids, MI. I have a husband who is allergic to dogs, and a sixteen year old daughter who begged for a dog for her birthday. My 13 yr old son's friend has a Havanese that we took care of for a weekend. My husband found he was less
allergic to Maya than other dogs. We now have a 9 month old fawn sable Havanese named Sophie, who makes us laugh every day. If I keep up on the dusting and vacuuming, it is more tolerable for Tom. Sophie loves to give kisses, which unfortunately for Tom, gives him hives (but he still loves her to death!). I am learning all about tear staining, grooming, dancing, paper shredding, runlikehell....and all the other funny and funky things about my Hav.
We purchased Sophie as a pet, with no intention of breeding her. The woman who sold her to me was going to keep her to breed, but she lost her job and decided she needed to sell her. I thought I would be receiving papers with the dog, but I only received papers to allow limited AKC registration. Is it still worth it to send in the papers for limited registration?
As Sophie has grown, I feel a little guilty that I got her spayed. I think she is a great example of the breed and would have loved to show her. I would still love to meet with knowledgeable Hav owners and get their opions on how much she matches the breed standard.
Since that video was taken, I have switched to organic/holistic dog food and bottled water. Her tearstains are going away! I am trying to keep her in full coat but it has been tough keeping up with the mats! Any tricks? I look forward to posting on this forum.
P.S Sophie's grandma loves her too (my mother-in-law) and would love to get access to any Hav embroidery patterns. She is very artistic, an excellent sewer and has her own high tech embroidery machine. I'm sure I could talk her into producing some beautiful quilt squares!
