Carseats, seat belt harnesses, or crate?

I have always used a crate for transporting my guys, but I find that many use harnesses and car seats instead. What are the pros and cons people have found with the seats and harnesses? Are they safe? Are the pups happier being able to see out? Beckett still has carsickness so I am not sure we are ready to change yet, but I thought I would scope out the choices.

I had Gryff in a car seat, but he kept throwing up in it. I recently changed to a harness and he's much happier now.

I've used all of the above with Oliver and he hated riding in his crate. A carseat or safety belt harness worked but the crate
He was even a "test dog" for different brands of car seats

I use a car harness. It looks like a regular harness but has a loop to slip the seat belt through to hook them into the car. I do have a crate that I used maybe twice because Giotto freaks in the crate. He is just much more comfortable out where he can see me and even look out the window. Though I have to admit there are times I just let him sit in the backseat when it's a short trip like taking the kids to school. They sit with him and he's much happier. I know it is probably not the safest place for him. He really loves to go in the car. It's a bummer for him now because the weather is getting warmer and he doesn't get to go out as much with us because of that.

Car anxiety

Daisy easily sleeps in the car. Riki is extremely vigilant, and is always standing up panting. He is almost five and goes in the car all the time. It saddens me that he still shakes a bit in the car. Any suggestions?

I have always used the snoozer lookout carseat. I just bought the larger one so Brady can now lay down without having to scrunch up in it. He has never had any problems with car sickness. He loves the carseat as he can look out and see everything. He seems very comfortable in it.

Have always crated my dogs in the car. Just feel its better protection in case of a crash.

Hmmm.

I wonder if Beckett would be less car sick if he wasn't in the crate and could see out the window. I think I might try a harness and see what happens. Now I hate taking him in the car because he gets so sick. I hope he outgrows it.

I would agree not to feed him, but also don't let him go on an empty stomach. Brady has only gotten sick in the car twice and both times were when he went out before breakfast. Now, I always feed him something small if we are going somewhere early in the morning so he has something in his stomach. I know some other people have mentioned that their dogs do better in the carseats than in the crates. I certainly know that I do better facing foward in a car and being able to see out the window
