So mad!! Need to vent.

First, I live at home with my parents since we are trying to save money for a house. During this time I have been conditioning Tito's coat like crazy and trying to baby it. I started work again last week after my glorious 6 weeks off and what do I find? After repeatedly telling my dad NOT to let the dogs outside too long in the sun, etc, he has left them outside between 12-1!!! That is when the sun is the strongest. Not to mention the hottest, can you imagine if they dehydrate or worse?? I was about to scream at him for being such a jerk. His reason is that they bark when they are inside and it annoys him, so he lets them out. I explain to him if he entertains their barking and so forth he is just reinforcing the behavior, all of which falls on deaf ears. Apparently this has been happening since we moved in, so months. I can't believe it. I constructed a umbrella chateu for them and Tad made a hammock with a tent for additional shade. My dad laughed at the idea and said the dogs wouldn't even use it. He also doesnt like it for the obvious aesthetic reasons. Mind you, he doesnt even go outside.

What can I do to save my sanity and my poor dogs? I am very much concerned about the safety of leaving them out as well as the poor boy's coat. Summer = heat, dryness, FOX TAILS, stickers, ants, spiders... the list is endless.

I want to cry.

well....two edge sword...
as I always tell my kids...
when you are an adult you either abide by my rules or move out!!

I can understand your concern....maybe if you crate them in another room while you are gone they would sleep during that time. I know mine sleep most of they day while I work..

Oh Estrella, I feel for you girl. What you need to do is have your dad come with you to a few shows so he begins to understand what you are going through to maintain his coat. But of course I'm sure he won't. Maybe he'll just need a reminder call during the day about not letting them out in the sun. So sorry you're going through this.

My Parents and PIL take care of Beamer while we are at work. For the most part they try to follow all of our 'crazy' rules.. But sometimes, they just let Beamer do what they want.. I mean they are taking care of him for a big chunk of the day, so its hard to slap them on the wrist when they are doing so much for us.. lol
Beamer seems to be having fun anyhow!

Oooh this is a tough call.

Jackson actually gets sunburned in bright sun no matter the temperature. Maybe it would help if your dad knows that the Humane Society and local shelters come on TV during the summer and make recommendations on keeping pets put up during the heat of the day. Can't he let them out earlier before it gets so hot? Mine sleep mostly during the day too. Hope he comes around, but it's tough to teach an old dog new tricks

I hate to say this but I have to. My dad doesnt work and just stays home, and sadly, drinks. That being said, let your imagination run with how much he probably cares about what I want. I will try the early morning thing, maybe that will help. ... I am still fuming.

I'm sorry, I agree with Catherine. It's your Dad's home and whether he drinks, doesn't work or anything else, it's still his home and you and your dogs are guests. I'd try crating the dogs too or else be looking for somewhere else to live. Sorry you're going through this.

Well... maybe you guys would be better off at your own place? Even if its just a rental until you can afford to buy your own place. Your 2 havs might be better off by themselves than facing uncertanties with someone that is not all together, while you are at work??

Ok, so I am moving!!! I took your advice and started looking up places. It sucks but I can't handle it anymore. The dogs are only alone for a few hours a day, but how those hours are spent is just not cool.

Thanks guys. I will update you when I go home tonight from training, maybe it is better? doubt it...

Been there done that. Not only did I live with my hubby and two dogs and two year old son in my mom's basement apt while we built our house (which took ten long months) but at that time I owned a coffee house with Mumsy. It was a very stressful arrangement and I say take a lot of deep breaths, know you won't ever change your parents, be thankful for the "free place," be graciouis, and get the hell out of there! Best.
