? wet dog food amounts

mugs has finally settled on one dog food that he will eat without any fuss.

it's evo in the can.

i'm not too sure though about amounts. if i have it right he should get about 1/3 of a can per meal.
does that sound right? he weighs in at 10 pounds and is full of energy.

That sounds about right to me.

Be forewarned, when you start feeding them "wet" food, or people food (any food with water) it takes a few weeks for them to adjust their water intake and the stools to firm up.

You'll notice, he'll drink LESS water over time, because he doesn't need to, he's getting it in the food, but everyone I know that has switched to home-cooked or canned claimed there is a watery-stool period that typically lasts 2-4 weeks, depending on the dog. Don't panic.

are these the big cans Joe? When I was trying the Evo we used the little cans (boys would only eat it fresh, not after it had been refrigerated...LOL) and they were supposed to get a can a day (my boys are 18 and 20 lbs but pretty low energy)

So I would say a 1/3 a big can each feeding. Does Mugs seem hungry?

Just follow the feeding directions on the can. They usually list portions wet food only, or portion with dry kibble added.

Way to go on finding the right food! Sully is such a grazer, but I bet if he ate instead of dragging the kibbles all over the house he would eat faster. His bowls hold 1.75 cups od tiny kibble bites. And can last up to 3 days! Our theory is, fill the bowl (hope you don't step on too many kibbles during the day) if he eats he's fed, if not start again tomorrow. If he ever got fat, feed less.

mugs refuses to eat kibble, i have given lots of different kinds of it away to other dogs that will eat it! he only likes wet food.
i have to say that he is the fastest eating dog that i have ever had.
he can gobble his plate clean before i put away the leftover from the can.

Kodi and Shelby have to be starving to only eat kibble. They get 1/2 portion of Little Cesar mixed with 1/4 cup of Fromm's kibble each. I also give them whatever I have cooked for us - meatloaf, chicken, salmon.
