You guys think this is a Hav?

I was just browsing craigslist and came across this ad. He really looks like a Hav to me, but the ad is so "fishy." I couldn't help think that this guy is not in a good situation. I just mean that the ad is so vague, or maybe this is deliberate so it doesn't scream "havanese" to people that would take advantage? Am I paranoid? What do you think?

Sorry--now I see it. It could be a Hav or a mix. What is economy like there? I have heard of people who lose their houses and just leave the dog in the back yard. This person is trying to find somebody to take him.

Amy- I don't know if he's a Hav, but he sure is cute. Honestly, I've met so many mixes that look like a Havanese. Two days ago I was walking Maddie and met a lady who I was sure had a Havanese. Nope. She said it was an "American LhaMalShi" (not sure of the spelling, but that's what it sounded like). Huh? She said it was a "very rare breed....a cross between a lhasa, maltese, and shih-tzu." She said it was an "official, recognized breed". Not sure what she meant, but when I was growing up, we just called them mixed breed or cute mutts. She paid alot of money for her designer dog, and I have to say, it didn't have a great temperament. When Maddie did her usual front down, butt in the air routine to play, the dog just growled. The lady said the dog wasn't "friendly". Duh.

The dog didn't have the temperament of most Havanese, but it definitely looked like a Havanese.

Wow - that could be a Hav! Amy, I think you really need to, if you have not already, sign up for HRI!!!! There are services needed other than fostering- such as surfing the internet, and you sure seem to have a knack for finding these guys. You should call or email HRI and see what they think.
I agree that the vagueness of the ad, makes you think it is not the best place for this pup.

Well I emailed these people for more information on the dog last night and haven't heard anything. Meanwhile, if I do, I'll let you know.

Laurie that's a great idea. I will contact HRI today. I know I am not in best place to foster, as I do have small kids, but if I can help find others that need help or do other things that would be awesome.

Actually, while I was on craigslist, looking for chicken stuff (I'll start a new thread about that later) I saw so many people trying to place their great danes. Some of you know I recently lost my six year old dane, so I will always have a tender place for their well being. They are such a sensitive breed it just kills me that so many people get them and later are trying to get rid of them because they are too much work. I would actually say Posh is much tougher than my dane ever was, he had zero confidence without me it was so sad. Anyway, I emailed all of these people casting aside their danes that they should contact my local dane rescue group for help placing the dogs. I think I'll also contact the rescue group too.

That dog is a cutie!!! Let us know what they say.

I knew a girl from church who gave up her dane because it got too big. Um, hello?? She knew she wasn't getting a chihuahua.

I was at the dog park the other day with Mijo and this lady had THREE great danes! Wow! No room in that bed huh?

But I agree, it may be a mix although it looks an awful lot like a hav!

I have a friend who has a new puppy, she "found" them and never left! She was well cared for so when she took her to the vet to see if she was chipped the vet told her she had probably been abandoned by someone who lost their home. My friend put up signs all over, drove around looking for "lost dog" signs and posted a listing on Craigs List. I don't know how anyone could leave a pet behind without arranging care for it! But now my friend and her family have a wonderful mutt and the doggie is happy too!

When we moved into our house the previous owner told us we were inheriting a cat. I explained that my kids were allergic and he just laughed. He left the cat!!! I couldn't have it here so a neighbor took it but every time we opened the door he would be there trying to get in. People are crazy!!! And I was angry that he'd leave it to become our responsibility. I hope they never get another pet!
