Planning a vacaiton just for my havanese

well, I have been inspired by all the photos of dogs by the ocean, pool, etc. And I got to thinking that Henry has never seen the ocean!

So, I am thinking about bringing him to the Jersey Shore (or, as said here in NJ: "goin' down the shore")

Any pet friendly places? I found a cottage in Avon-by-the-sea, but it is much too large for me and him.

THANKS! for all who might point me in the right direction.

Oh how sweet. Don't have any advice, but I'm sure he is going to have a ball.

I dont know if they have a book in your area like the one I got here. It was Traveling in California for the dogs. It has been amazing. We found everywhere to go with the dogs. It had reviews for hote, restaurants, parks, shopping, etc.

Here are a few books I saw on Amazon about hiking with your dog in Jersey. Maybe you can find one with recommendations?

OR, just call a rental agency, or look online for a smaller rental, like a condo. I'm sure you'll find one that will take a small dog. I notice with hotels, ironically, it seems like the nicer ones take dogs and the more common chains don't. Maybe that's just me? But I was looking at Myrtle Beach for a dog freindly place and found a few.

Gucci LOVES the sand/beach. Just wait til you see them try to RLH in it. The sand is like a trampoline to them! lol

Kara~ It's not just you. When we went to Vegas a few weeks ago, the only pet friendly hotel I could find was the Four Seasons @ $350/night! Which is one of the reasons we decided to take the RV to stay in...

We're also going to the NJ coast, to Wildwood, with the 3 teens. No dogs with us this time though. I know many beaches won't allow dogs, even if they are on leash. There seemed no point in bringing them, only to have to keep them in an unknown home, in their crates so they dont' damage anything, and always worry about how long we'll be out. Our kids and us haven't had a nice holiday together in a bit, so we need the time 'alone' this year. Of course, if it were just ME, then I'd be bringing Ricky and Sammy in a heartbeat! lol

Good luck with finding a place and do make sure you can actually bring Henry on the beach!

Kordelia,
That is a wonderful idea!! The problem is that I have not found a NJ beach that allows dogs yet (at least not during summer months). We are going to Avalon for 3 weeks but my guys have never seen the actual beach and we have been taking them for 5 years!! Lily went before she was even a full year old. I just cant go on vacation for that long and leave them behind, but sadly, when we go to the beach, they have to stay in the house! I have gone to a realtor and said that we will only rent a house that would accept our dogs, but it is easier if you let them know 1. that they are non shed hypoallergenic, and 2 - let them meet Henry!! There will be no problem renting to you! Good luck, it would be so neat if you and Henry were down the shore when we were and they could get a playdate in

I know the Jersey Shore is tough. That is why we decided to take Brady to Cape Cod this summer. I can't wait. He had better be on good behavior since we are going with my inlaws and they already think I am nuts for bringing him. I think many of the Jersey beaches allow dogs after September 15th or so.
