coyote in the burbs

Yesterday morning I was coming downstairs getting ready to walk the boys and through the window I saw what was too big to be a fox loping across our neighbors yard. By time I got down it was no where to be seen. But it kind of freaked me out. When I say we live in the burbs I mean it.

Keep your furbabies close.

We are having a epidemic of coyotes in the Upstate NY area. They have been sighted everywhere. In suburban and in small cities. We had one the regularly visited our back yard before I had Boo - as we found scat droppings eveywhere....and I watched it one day empty my neighbors bin that he fed the deer/squirels/turkeys out of (they had sweet horse feed in it). Most of the coyotes that I had seen previously where skinny, scrawny, scavanger looking creatures. This one was very large, very healthy with a golden-grey beautiful coat. At first I thought it was German Sheppard. i havent heard them calling in the night lately but we do not have a lot of rabbits like we did a few years back, so I think they are still out there. I wish they would catch those ferrel cats though and leave the bunnys alone....I never let Boo out alone....

yes this one gorgeous too. Looked like it could be a GS-- but somehow I knew it was not. Interesting, about the rabbits. We still have plenty, but would love it if the cayote would at least do us the favor or peeing on our fences...then maybe the boys would have not more of their favorite delecacy "rabbit poo".

Scary though.

Scarry is the black bear that was wandering around last week. I know that most wild life doesnt like confrontation but you never know. There have even been reports of a wolf and mountain lions. we live at the bast of the Tugg Hill Plateau which is near the start of the Adirondack Park and Mountains. We get lots of fun wildlife here. Very neat to watch...from a distance...

My daughter-in-law had two large coyotes running through her back yard this spring...we're in eastern Michigan. And I saw one cross in front of my car in a suburban area. He was big and I thought he was a GS at first. I slowed down and got a good look. He was just ambling along, not a care in the world. Needless to say, I keep a close eye on Cazzie.

I live in the suburbs of Detroit, MI.... it's wall to wall people from here to Detroit with, apparently, just enough pockets of woods for a very active deer and coyote population. We have one at the edge of our neighborhood who is so big the Dept of Natural Resources came out ot see if it was a wolf!!!!! I always feel kind of weird when I take Roxie out last thing at night.... seems like there is something out there watching me!

Scary!! How are they making it into the suburbs?? I haven't seen any in my neighborehood but it has been on the news lately for the people that live more up in the hills/mountains.
