not the same person I used to be...

I recently realized how my life and my personality have changed since we've had Jasper and Cash. Care to share how your pups have changed you? here's my list:

1) I am much less squeamish--- years ago, if I found a tick in my bed-- I would not have slept for a month (I only had two restless nights and the boys were never banished from the bed-- just more checking)

2) clean freak? not anymore. I mean, so what if the paws are a little wet when they climb on the bed for cuddles...or if there is always leaves on my floor.

3) DH and I have not seen a first run movie in the theatre in the longest time...would much prefer to be home with my boys.

4) I was never an animal person--- because of allergies I had convinced myself that animals were poison. Well now as you know, I love all those that are cute and fuzzy and can't resist a pat or a kiss even if it isn't a hav and makes me itch....IWAP!!!

5) I really think I am nicer because of my boys.

what about you?

Boy oh boy how our life has gone to the dogs! We have changed our lifestyle and definitely do many more doggy events and our budget has really gone to the dogs! I think we were both animal people but what we have really done is changed the way a lot of people look at us and our animals. I was telling my gf about Belle getting out and thinking what could have happened. She told her mother and she said well she has 2 other dogs. My non dog friend stepped in and said Mother, Belle isn't a dog, she is a furry child!

You have thought about this a lot so I am afraid my answer will not reflect the same level of thought worthiness. However here goes:
1. My grocery list begins with what the dogs need. The price does not seeem to matter.
2. I have a circle of friends that revolve around my dogs. I do not go too long without seeing them.
3. I carry pictures of my dogs--definately a first, but perhaps because we are in digital mode and I can carry them on my phone.
4. I share the pics with almost strangers--patients that talk about their dogs.
5. I chose my wake up time by what my dogs need. They are not alone during the day right now, but I still do this.
6. My online time always includes a visit to this sight. I even access it from out of town.
7. I, too, have lightened up on my cleanliness.
8. I hope my dogs have brought out my friendly side. I do know they have brought out my happy side!

Funny, I was thinking about this just today...

1) Recently different neighbors have named someone else's dog in the neighborhood that they're afraid of. In each case, my dogs play with that other dog on a regular basis. It's really made me think about how many times have my false impressions, or my listening to someone else's opinion versus checking it out myself, limited my opportunity for friends and fun? Cody adapts his style of play to whomever he's with and because of it, he gets to play with everybody.

2) I've gotten my life priorities in order. I'd much rather be at home with the pups than advancing my career.

3) I'm trying to relax, live in the moment, and get excited even about the small things (and some of the big things too). No need to worry about the past and I'll just deal with the future when it gets here. And those times when I forget this rule, there are little furry fluffballs pushing at me with wet noses, big brown eyes, or little barks to remind me what's really important. (But I don't care how much fun it is, rolling in disgusting stuff is not going to happen!)

4) Most importantly, look at the friends I've made - all because of my dogs!

I have always had a dog but having Havs is not just getting a dog(s); it's more like acquiring an entirely different lifestyle

My iPhoto library is full of dog pictures and my friends now (lovingly) call me the 'crazy dog lady'. And they are right.

I can relate to all the things everyone has already mentioned!

With 2 Havs we definitely watch a lot less TV - nothing is more entertaining than they are.

We smile and laugh a lot more.

Friendly? heck yeah. All it takes is eye contact and a smile my way and I will ask strangers to pet Tucker (for socialization you know, lol)

We walk a lot more and have lots more impromptu conversations with neighbors and strangers alike, all because of the dogs.

I now have a toy box, dog car seat, and life jackets for both. Sounds normal here on the forum but a definite lifestyle change for us.

For the first time ever we take the dogs with us on vacation. And love it.

Now instead of driving my kids to sporting practices, I'm driving my dogs to agility and puppy classes.

I have passed up evening social opportunities to stay home especially if I've had a busy day with errands and/or appts. And I don't resent it; I want to stay home with them.

I'm sure there are more ways we've both changed since becoming Hav parents but these were the first to come to mind.

One thing that hasn't changed is we are still both neat freaks. The furkids just get a lot of mini-baths and I sweep the floor a lot! <sigh>

Good question Missy!

I agree with everything everyone else has said.

The friends we have are all animal lovers and we've made some wonderful friends because of our dogs and some have fallen by the wayside because they don't understand our committment to our pets.
We rarely go to new restaurants, preferring instead to get food to go so we can be at home with the girls.
We haven't been to a movie theater in so long I can't remember the last movie we saw at a theater.
Our vacations are to places we can take the dogs. It's a good thing we like camping. Not only do we hate leaving them for an extended time, I am hestitant to ask others to babysit them because I don't want to impose.
We've given up on seeing Europe in person and we're okay with that.
I spend more time analyzing the dogs' food, shampoo, conditioner etc. than I do my own and I spend way more money on their grooming than I do my own.
People look at us oddly when we say we now have three dogs. I know they wouldn't if we had three kids but loving and nurturing are the same whether it be a human or a dog. We're happy with our family.
