Going on vacation

We are leaving tomorrow for a week. We are flying to Vegas, then driving to Zion/Bryce/Grand Canyon. Gryff is going to stay with my friend Nicole & family including their enormous Rottweiller Nala. Gryff has stayed with them before and he gets along well with Nala. It's a good thing I'm not there because it terrifies me to see my little 12 lb dog and her 95 lb dog together. I completely trust Nicole. She's got a real way with dogs.

My bigger fear is that Gryff has been doing really well with Chuck and Alec over the past few weeks. Either it will all be lost or absence will make the heart grow fonder. I'm hoping for the latter!

Also today I took Gryff out to the store and there were a lot of dogs out. Whenever a dog approached him, he would back off and be afraid. If a dog didn't come to him, he would go to the dog and sniff him out. I was very impressed with my little chicken dog.

Ivy, have a great vacation. I'm sure Gryff will be fine and he will be so happy to see your "boys" when they get back, that he will love them to pieces.

I think Gryff is a lot like Kodi. They just need their own terms to make friends with other dogs.

Ivy,
Have a wonderful time! We did a similar trip last year but spent two weeks going to Vegas, Zion, Brice, Monument Reef, Arches, Bryce, Mesa Verde, Four Corners and Grand Canyon. We visited with family in NV, UT, and CO and it was a great trip! 5 of us in a mini van was reminiscent of the Chevy Chase Vacation movie but it was fun. Be prepared for the heat in LV, my youngest son was 10 last summer and when we walked into the parking deck at the McCarren airport he cried because the heat was burning his eyes! Bring a swimsuit and flip flops for walking to/from the pool. It was such a treat to see so many of the beautiful sites in the USA!!!

Where are you staying in LV???

Have fun!

Ann -

We are staying at the Excalibur when we get to Vegas and the Mirage on the way back. I've stayed in half a dozen hotels there, but never those two. We are seeing The Beatles Love on the last night, thus the Mirage. I think Alec is going to flip out when he sees the Fremont Street Experience. I still think it's the coolest thing.

I've been to Vegas this time of year, so I know how incredibly hot it is. Everyone who tells me "it's a dry heat" can kiss my butt! Yes, I know it's dry, but it's still like being shoved into a convection oven!

Did you hike The Narrows at Zion? I can't wait to do that!

I've never stayed at Excalibur or Mirage, we've stayed at Paris, Madalay Bay and South Point. South Point was VERY inexpensive, VERY nice, off the strip, and a great place to end our vacation with the kids as it had it's own huge pool, game room, movie theater, ice cream shop, etc. It really catered to families but staying on the strip is so much fun. My kids were blown away and just wanted to walk around all the time at night.

We loved Nobu at Hard Rock and Mesa Grill at Ceasar's, I look forward to eating at those two places whenever we're there. DH's sister and her husband live there and the rest of his family surround that area so it's the easiest airport to fly into.

We didn't hike as we had all 3 of the kids with us so our goal was just to let them see the parks and get an idea of what it was like in that part of the country, they'd never been out West. Since my DH grew up there and lived in NM as well he's hiked all around there and looks forward to doing it again. He rock climbs too but there's no way I'd do that!

I'm so jealous that you're seeing The Beatles show! I'd LOVE to see it! I hope it's wonderful and that you all love it.

Dry heat?!?! It's still just HOT, HOT, HOT!!!

HAVE FUN!!!
