Hocking Hills, OH

I'm thinking about renting a cabin for me & the dogs in Hocking Hills, Ohio (south of Columbus) for the last week in July. I'm attending the Havanese Angel League Organization (HALO) Rescue picnic on Saturday, the 26th in Elyria, OH and then thought I'd drive over to spend a few days of quiet & solitude hiking the state parks around Hocking Hills. I've never been there before, but it looks wonderful - especially for picture taking. Not too sure about staying in a cabin in the woods by myself, but what the heck, I'm sure Tess will protect me

Is anyone nearby who would be available for a playdate around 7/27 - 7/30?

Hi Jill!

Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make a play date (I'm in Nebraska) but I have a wonderful friend that lives in Elyria, of all places! If you have any questions about it, I'm sure I could get some info from her about it, just let me know!

Jill- I am not near there anymore but we did a weekend down there a year ago with the girls and it was wonderful. I recommend taking your pups hiking with you as it was very dog friendly. This is where I learned Dora liked water right outside of Old Man's Cave so take towels and soap and conditioner We rented a really nice home with a hot tub, ping pong, fireplace and ended up staying in one of the rainy days and had a good time. We also went to an antique area off the highway that was very dog friendly and we ate lunch outside so it was a very nice dog trip!

Jill.... that sounds like a wonderful trip to take with Tess and Cody (and your camera, of course!) I am sure you will have a great time. That picture above makes me want to go! (I think Miss Roxie would LOVE that waterfall, don't you????)

Thanks Beverly, I'll just be in Elyria overnight for the HALO picnic - they have a block of rooms at a hotel so I didn't even have to do research for that. The picnic is for all the people who have ever adopted a Hav from HALO or another breed from Freedom Rescue so it should be fun.

Amanda, you convinced me - I'll make my reservations tomorrow! There are a few options for pet-friendly cabins with hot tubs. One overlooks a pond and I think is pretty close to Old Man's Cave. I remember when you posted that photo before and I loved it! I had no idea it was in Hocking Hills!!! It will be fun to see how my two react. With everything they do I realize how little experience they've had with the world, even though they're not puppies. Woods, wildlife and waterfalls may put them both right under that plant with Tori.

Ann - I think Roxie would have a lot more fun with me than mine will....maybe she should go with me instead! Roxie and Cody would be a riot. I'm sure the photos wouldn't begin to show the fun she had! Roxie in the waterfall, Roxie in the pond, Roxie in the hot tub, Roxie chasing deer/rabbits/squirrels/birds, Roxie in the caves (oops, no pictures of that - wouldn't be able to see her!)

ARGHH - I actually work in Elyria (and live a few minutes away) but I'll be in Marietta that weekend for a Teacup trial.

Jill- I hope you have as much fun and hopefully it is cool. There is a lot of shade down there at least. I was thinking and it may be high tourist season so if you have a stroller or something that may be helpful. Old man's cave there is a lot of up and down so I would recommend you carry the dogs at least part of the way. I looked thru my email and couldnt find the name of the cabin rentals but they were nice. We reserved a smaller cabin but the guy was friendly and said as long as they wouldn't chew anything, he put us in the nicer cabin.

I can't find the name of the giant antique mall either but most of it is outdoors. It is huge and right off the highway. There is an old metal trailer that is a 50's diner with outdoor seating and we took the girls right there. Make sure to get a milk shake My in laws even visited another time and took Belle with them and a lot of the indoor stores invited them in.

Here are some more pics- DH takes pics without the dogs!

It really is probably one of the prettiest places in Ohio to be honest.
