Puppy Kindergarten all over again!

I started Shamouti in kindergarten last Wednesday. He's so funny! Even though he was soooo outgoing in his litter and has a brother for play all the time, he hid under the chairs with tail tucked! It was all a bit overwhelming for him! It was a small class... a miniature poodle, a german shepard pup, a boston terrier and a HAVANESE!!!!! A local? Hav!!!!!!!!!

Well stupid me, I was so wrapped up in checking out the puppers and listening to the teacher and trying to bring Shamouti out of his shell that I spent hardly any time talking to the Hav family. I hope they come next week so we can chat! They had a precious little girl Hav just a couple weeks older than Shamouti! (She's around here's somewhere~lurking LOL, so I hope I can coax her out!) Hallooooo?

Shamouti was pretty nervous at first. I think all the little fluffers were~the Boston Terrier was a little intimidating! He was running and twisting all over the place like a two year old on Captain Crunch! My little guy eventually got into the play some although he used the legs and chairs as a good place to dodge behind in case he needed to retreat. Overall for a first day I thought he did well and I'm looking forward to next week. We're supposed to take our doggie beds with us so the pups learn to go to their beds. Hmmmmm, I think I'll take a crate pad since they're easier to wash. I noticed the Boston was peeing on everything.

I'm with you. Take the easiest thing you have to clean.

Christy- how fun! I bet your next post, will be about how to get Shamouti to come back to you in class!

Last night in my class, I learned why you don't set your purse next to a pole. Let's just say the newfie goes way more than my pups go and luckily it was a cheap purse!

Thinking of adding a Neezer, check out this thread!

What is puppy kindergarten? I don't seem to hear about things like this here and my vet hasn't mentioned anything.

I guess I'm lucky since my vetr recommends it and they hold it indoors at the vets once a week after the floors have be cleaned and disinfected.

Puppy kindergarten is early socialization for your pup. It makes a great beginning to any training you may want to do later as well as just making your dog better socialized with all dogs. They learn how to interract with all types of dogs. Dogs are send body language to each other about "play" or being angry or scared or shy by using ears and tails and such. Some breeds of dogs have ears that stick up and some have long tails and some have no tails! Puppy K. helps them to learn how to understand other dogs and how to be properly social little beings. It brings out shyness and helps reduce fear and lets them refine their social skills.

Just ask you vet or look in the phone book for dog training. Sometimes Petco and other Pet Stores will offer this. Ours is $20 a class and is taught by a dog training instructor.
