won't pee in the morning

our routeen is this: we get up, i take the dog out to the back yard to pee, we come back inside, dog runs lke crazy to landing where husband takes dog out for walk to exercise and poop.

well, dog won't pee in the morning! he lifts his leg up and fakes a pee, but won't pee in the back. i don't want this to become a habit where he his morning pee is at the park and not here at home. any suggetions? once he has made up his mind to come back inside, that's it, no stopping him. this is the 4th day this has happened.

I have no idea because it would seem he would be ready to pee as soon as he gets outside. Maybe take a treat out in the morning to intice him to stay out long enough to relieve himself. I think these Havs spend a lot of their nap time thinking of ways to worry us and drive us nuts.

My sis-in-law's hav, Maxx, does the same thing -- he fakes a pee all the time, but he does it to get a treat.

I'm thinking he knows there are other scents at the park and he'd much rather leave his pee there! I would say, no more park and exercise until he goes at home.....might take awhile, but he will eventually pee at home, I would think.

Havee does the same thing and it drives me crazy! Sometimes he goes first thing and other times he doesn't. Then I bring him inside and feed him and then take him out about 1/2 hour later to poop--a short walk--and he goes then.

Even if he complains to go out after eating, I make him wait a while since he wasn't in such a rush anyway!

I'm thinking he'd rather go on a walk to pee, but that's just not going to happen. If he doesn't go in the back, I bring him in and try a little later so he gets the hint that the backyard is where I want him to go.

We had the same routine as yours. Benji started to hold it until his walk with my DH in the morning. He enjoyed peeing on his walks. From my experience, the only way the habit can be broken is by keeping the walk time unpredictable.

Another suggestion is to make pee time a "no sniff" session. Put him on a leash and take him where you want him to pee. It's soon going to become no fun not to pee when told.

Interesting. I can see that he is waiting for his walk. We have a different problem here. Gryff doesn't like to walk on the wet grass! I have to pull him onto the grass so he will pee. Once he's there, he will pee, but I have to force him until the morning dew evaporates. What a weenie!

Daisy sometimes wants to play rather than pee. We've been taking her to her "spot" in the yard and tell her to "go potty". We won't play until she goes. If she just lies down in the grass and starts gazing around, we walk her around within a very small area. When she goes, we treat and THEN IT'S PLAY TIME. She is figuring out its easier to just GO and get it over with so she can play.

If we let her play first - she'd NEVER go!

We had a thunderstorm last night. Dusty will go out in a driving rain to do her business (she used to feel differently though!). Indie will hold it as long as she can to avoid going if the ground is wet. Indie refused to go from around seven last night until 9 this morning! We took her out and tried different places in the yard, and she just looks at us like she is being treated with great cruelty. And then she finally peed on the patio! I had to hose off her feet, so she didn't get to stay dry anyway. Crazy dog.
The trick is to be more stubborn than the dog, but the dog can be incredibly stubborn!!
