Calendar/Rescue

Well people in Rescue are mad at me because I have not sent in the money. I can see why they would be concerned as its been a while. We were literally selling calendars until May, so I did want to only do the process once.

There was a problem processing some cards on people who paid through the site and not paypal. When I FIRST opened up the site for selling, and there was concern about security, I immediately changed things and made sure it was secure. When I did so, I stopped the data from going to the terminal. Long story short, I messed it up and those people were not charged.

I sent out an email and am about to send out another. I did not want to eat all that expense myself, I already put up $1900 of my own money up front for the printing. SO I have been dragging my feet with crazy problems going on at home w/ Tom. Its totally MY fault and I take total blame.

However, I have been waiting on a new calendar to see if they will sell it at National. I have not received a response as of yet. And I am deciding if I should incur the printing expense up front myself again. And if we do want to keep doing the Calendar for rescue or consider other charities. ( I am very ok with rescue getting the profits, but like before, I want the forum to decide.)

We did just donate them a quilt, and like I said I put up the money for all the printing on the calendar, I dont want to feel like a bad guy and get a nasty wrap for procrastinating a month or two to give them free money.

What are your thoughts??? If we do another Calendar and they wont sell it at their table at rescue, I will have to think twice about when and IF I will do it. I will not do it the same way as last year, but this time have a much better method of processing money and shipping to make it much faster.
There is no hurry if it wont be sold at National, we can do it in September. I will say we can sell a TON more if its sold there.

I apologize to everyone in Rescue for delaying in sending the payment in. Nothing shady at all, just dealing with typical life problems and trying to make sure that all of the money is IN THE BANK before I send off a huge check. While I love to help rescue, I just cant make a mistake that is going to cost me a lot of money in addition to the time I already put in. It has just taken me way too long to figure that out , and for that I apologize.

Regardless, we will eventually do a calendar this year, even if we do it for ourselves. So do send in your photos to photos at haneseforum.com ( Replace the at with @.

Melissa,

I think it would be great if they would sell the calendar at National. I'm sure it would bring a lot more money. I'm really sorry the whole process was so convoluted for you. A lot of it, I'm sure, was because it was the first time. Although I paid for my two calendars through PayPal, I'd be happy to contribute something if you're losing money after you straighten out all the accounts of those who didn't get billed.

Though I would love to see another Hav calendar for the new year I'd have to say the decision is yours since you had/have to deal with the problems that crop up. If I can help in any way, just holler.

Hi Melissa,

Making a calendar ready for the Nationals would result in many sales I'm sure, but would it be possible in such a short turn around time? It's less than 6wks away now! Last time was VERY stressful for you as I recall... soooooo....

Having said that... LETS DO IT!!

Ryan

Melissa can't post right now, she's at the airport......but she can get it done if need be in time for the Nationals, a lot of the issues with the first one can be avoided now because of that experience

Gosh Melissa,I would think rescue would love to sell the calendar at Nationals since they are getting the proceeds. I hope they give you a reply very soon. I do know it can get "hairy" at times dealing with different charities. Sometimes there is so much red tape and loops to jump through, that it's a turn off(not referring to rescue here, but to different things we have tried to do in our community with Girl Scouts/school kids).

I think doing another calendar would be great! We have a fantastic group of peeps here and collectively we can do alot!

I have opted or committed to donate the next quilt to rescue as well---but wanted to do a second if we could or wallhanging etc. to donate to Canada. So far,I'm short on people/commitments but I do think it is very early yet and people are on vacation, busy with kids etc.

I do want to make sure in the future,if we do any other quilts that we keep out enough proceeds or get enough proceeds through cafe press (selling our block images-if possible) to fund the quilt (pay for fabric, batting, quilting, shipping expenses). It was stupid on my part to not think of this when giving it to rescue....but I just thought it would of felt funny to say,"here you can have this quilt,EXCEPT for 250.-300. we need back to do it again".You know? We will have to raise that money again for this time --

I know completely how things happen/expenses are more then you think/things come up unexpectedly etc. Live and learn they say for a reason, but Melissa---you did a great job on the calendar, and you'll see the forum quilt at National for yourself..I think you'll love it! It's worth it in the end!
