How set up a kennel

Hi due to reading on line that some counties restrict your amount of dog's in your home I want to set up a kennel. How did you set up your's so you can keep more then 2 dog's over 6 month's of age? You can e-mail me private if you want at [email protected]. Any information you can give would be great. Also my son and daughter in law want to set up one for their bulldog's.
Thank's in advance for any help you can give me.

You are setting up a kennel for Bulldogs or for your Havanese? I am confused! I am sure you can find information online for outside kennels made for outside dogs (Which Havanese are NOT!)

Your city (or maybe your county, because I'm not sure about Oregon's restrictions) will have that information for you. You need to ask about getting a kennel license. That should be your first step. Licensing restrictions will dictate the majority of things, depending on where you live.

Keep in mind that you will have to pay a separate licensing fee annually for each dog (over 4 months or 6 months, depending on your area), and a little higher rate for each one that is intact.

I am sorry. I meant setting up a kennel name not a pen. Stupid me is working to long of hour's and puppies are keeping me up late playing. Anyway both my son's wife and I would like to set up kennel names with akc and the state so we can keep dog's over 6 month's of age and not get into trouble. Seem's most cities don't allow over 2 dog's at a time unless you are operating a kennel.

All the rules for AKC kennel names are on their web site. Just do a search through their site and you'll see all the things you need to do first, and how to apply.

If you are working such long hours, are you going to be able to socialize & rear puppies?

I am not going into breeding. Just don't want to loose the dog's I have. Didn't know I was over the limit until I checked the city link. Anyway my puppies are going to work tomorrow with me for some special time. I work in a nursing home and they love it when I bring in my other dog's. I will use all the protection I can and not let them on anything that may cause them health problem's. Mostly they will sit on one of my towel's on lap's for some elderly loving. I did this with Titan and Katie both when they were young and they still love going with me for visits.

Most kennels don't have AKC registered kennel names, so I don't think you will need to worry about that part unless you just want to get a name that you don't want anyone else to use for putting on their dogs.

You should be fine just going through your city's requirements for getting a kennel license.

Funny thing, I was reading through my town's city codes looking for some information on fencing and lo and behold I find out that any dwelling where three or more dogs live is a kennel. With the addition of Rumor, my home suddenly became a kennel. I need a catchy kennel name just for kicks. Hmm, wonder if there are any tax advantages to being a kennel like deducting dog food on my income tax!!
What do I intend to do about it.......Nothing! I figure the city has better things to do than run around counting how many dogs I have. My neighbors aren't going to say anything most certainly. Someday I may even add dog number four if a lovely chocolate Hav needs a home. :-)

Gee here in my city you can only have 2 dog's over 6 month's of age or you are in trouble. Heck the mailman report's you for everything....LOL. Neighbor's aren't a problem at all.

Judy,
You don't need an AKC registered kennel name to be in compliance with your county. What you need to do is contact the county and ask what the requirements are for keeping intact dogs/bitches. Many only allow them now if the dog/bitch is being shown or has their AKC championship unless you have a kennel license. So I would suggest you start first with the county and then go from there.
