Yesterday was an exciting and rough day!!

Not only did we bring home our new hav Sammy, our other hav Summer (1 yr old) managed to chase, catch and KILL a poor bunny rabbit!! I was shocked and mortified!!! I mean she has been chasing bunnies, birds and ground squirrels in the back yard for a while now but I NEVER thought she would actually catch one, let alone kill one.

Has anyone else's hav ever done something like this? My daughters and her friends (with my husband's help) had a funeral for the poor bunny in our backyard. I just felt so bad for the poor little thing. Is this a behavior I need to have addressed with a professional??

Thanks,
Jen, Summer, 1 yr (the bunny killer ) and Sammy, 8 wks

While Cazzie has never caught anything he chases (rabbits, squirrels, robins) my little Doxie Phoebe once got a baby bunny. But, dogs will be dogs and can't be expected to abide by human behavior no matter how much we baby them! Not to worry - it's simply the "Call of the Wild!"

Our cat Jasper loves to hunt critters in our yard. He caught a baby bunny, killed it of course and ate part of it's head. He brought it within Quincy range and Quincy was found crunching on a bloody bunny head. It was just repulsive......

Of course I know it's just natural for them, but it wasn't very natural for me!

Bugsy has never caught anything, yet, but my Standard female is quite the huntress. Lucky for me it's only gophers, but this girl's got quite the prey drive!!!

My lab got out and brought home a chicken once from a neighbors house...That was fun

My kitty Diesel catches at least a bunny a week and eats the whole thing! It's not pretty

havs may be tiny and cute but they still come from the wolf and will hunt if need or desire rises.
poodles were originally hunting dogs were they not?

Toby doesn't really give more than a half hearted attempt at a chase to birds, etc. I'd take it as a sign of agility and talent! (Although it would upset me to have to see it as well. Poor bunny.) Where are the puppy pics?

A friend of my husband has a great story. One night, he and his wife were in bed going to sleep and they kept hearing this crunching noise. Finally, they couldn't take it anymore and turned on the lights to investigate. They found their cat under the bed chewing a rabbit. Ugh!
