A Note from HRI

I have been seeing posts about HRI and I want to respond. (I applied for membership to the forum but know that it takes a while for processing. Thus I asked Pat to post for me).

First- HRI appreciated all your support with the quilt, and with new Foster Homes.

HRI also really Appreciated Melissa's offer to do a second calendar.

Unfortunately, according to Melissa and from what we can figure out, a fair number of emails went astray or got caught in spam filters. It appeared to both parties that the other was not responding which led to some misunderstanding.

HRI has been very successful in the past with calendars that were completely made up of rescue dogs, and we have been hearing for quite some time from people who wanted that type of calendar again. So, in the time period when there was no apparent communications from either party, it was initiated and is in progress.

We did communicate all this to Melissa, and we are sorry that either our message did not reach her, or it was not explained adequately, since we had no wish to disrupt a wonderful connection with her and this forum group. We've greatly appreciated the support and, in fact told her she will be listed on our heroes page on our website where we acknowledge the supporters of our rescue dogs.

We are sorry for the confusion since for all of us it is an unpleasant distraction, especially for those of us who are most interested in taking care of the dogs that need us so badly, and are costing us more and more.

Melissa busted her chops to get that calendar out and opted to donate the proceeds to HRI, which was much to the admiration of many of us. She also got a lot of hassle from it, but I daresay that it didn't come from the forum members who helped to contribute (photos or financially).

I probably shouldn't speak for Melissa or the forum, but I don't think she was suggesting another calendar would be any kind of requirement to be in lieu of any HRI calendar, but to still benefit the organization.

As you know, I'm a supporter of HRI and have been glad to do what I can to help Havanese in rescue, but I personally wish that HRI didn't turn away a calendar that would have sent more funds to the organization.

Just my two cents,

It takes a while to approve new members when I am in Hawaii celebrating my birthday. Yes.

I don't have spam filters, and on my mac, everything pretty much gets put into my inbox. I was trying to be nice, saying some emails which you say you sent me, didn't make it.

NO email about another calendar was EVER sent to me, and Im sure you can figure that out in your sent folder. I am happy you are doing a rescue only calendar and wish you the best of luck. All I wanted was an answer in regards to selling the next calendar at Nationals . Until you saying you would not last week, I had not heard and I asked three times.

I put up $1900 of my OWN money for printing. I was a tad put out with the tone of the email I received, with words like "disappointed" were used. I was still selling calendars in May. I don't want to write three checks, I want to write ONE. I have to explain all of this to the IRS and show receipts and paperwork.

I am sorry you had to wait a couple of extra months for money that required very little effort on your part. I got home yesterday and it was put in the mail TODAY.

Like I said in the calendar thread, I apologize to everyone in rescue for being slow in getting everything finished. Its been 7 months since the calendar went on sale, and we sold it for a good 6 months. I say thats a pretty good turn out, and this forum had a LOT to do with that. So Im not REAL sorry it took an extra 60 days to send you almost 4k that came from idea out the blue ( the idea to make the calendar and give the money to rescue came from good hearted people here on the forum. ) last December.

I want to add two things... since some people may read what I wrote wrong. I did get that $1900 back and normally it would not cost that for printing. There were rush charges, along with two runs because we had NO clue how many we would sell. Like I said, it was my first time. But I got that $1900 back AFTER we sold that many calendars. I put it up.. hoping it would work out. The $3700 was the amount rescue gets AFTER me taking what I paid for printing out, I have receipts and will be glad to show them to anyone.

Second, my words are not directed to Stacy alone, she is the one who sent me the email last week speaking on behalf of the board. So I am speaking to her in regards to that, but it is directed to all of the board that is so "disappointed and let down" I QUOTE.

I'm glad that we (the forum) were able to give $3700, but I admit that I am even more grateful to you, Melissa, for donating the time that it took to make it happen. I'm not really willing to donate $3700 of my own at this time, so I'm glad to be a part of that donation, representing the forum. It took a lot of work from you for this to happen (and a little bit of money from the rest of us).

By the way, you made the best looking Hav calendar that I've seen to date. Even Brown Trout can't come close to your good eye... and we got to see a bunch of Havs we know on a daily basis. I'm looking at Baba & Sam right now... and one of Joan's dogs that I should know... doh!

Ok, now I am confused. Is there a reason that only 1 calendar can be sold and proceeds given to HRI? Having choices is good. Even if another calendar is in the works with rescue dogs, a calendar could also be done with forum dogs, show dogs, dogs at play, etc. and still make a lot of money for a non-profit organization.

Melissa, your calendar was so beautiful and I gave some as gifts to my family and they love it. I am sorry this has happened. I hope you still do a calendar and sell them.

Yes of course, they are afraid their calendar won't be sold well as the forum's calendar is so much more popular! hahahaha!
Sorry, I just couldn't resist.... as I completely agree with your question Kathy!
Even in such a heart-felt organisation as HRI I guess politics have crept in as well....

Melissa, all I can keep repeating, you have the full respect and support of all of us!

Wow Melissa $3700 in profit, with the short amount of time and learning curve you were dealing with that is an AWESOME amount. The calendars turned out so great I bet we double that this year, I already cant wait to get my next one.
