Beautiful white hav in foster care....meet Pancho

Pancho is a Luv Bug! About 12 lbs, he loves laps, especially ladies laps. Pancho is quiet, gentle and well mannered. He enjoys other dogs and even children, although we don't know about cats. He is working on his house training skills with his foster family and making good progress.

With his snowy white coat...he's quite the handsome dude!

Pancho is being fostered in Connecticut. Please check out www.havaneserescue.com to find out more...

Just another one of the many beautiful dogs coming in recently...could he fit into your furever home?

Another dog in foster care...soon to be available Shadow

Two year old Shadow is new to foster care and life inside a family home. He's learning a lot about the world outside a puppy mill where he spent the first two years of his life.

Shadow is a very cute ten pound sable. Though still wary of people in general, he loves getting his belly rubbed from his foster family while he lies on his back. We're thrilled to see him learning to trust enough to let this happen. He's spending one to three hours a night sitting on someone's lap in foster care. Quite a different world than the one from which he came.

It's important for Shadow that people give him time to warm up and adjust to them. He is very fearful of being picked up from behind. It takes slow steps for an unsocialized dog from a commercial breeding situation to learn how to respond to people who want to give attention to them in positive and loving ways. Before he came to rescue, Shadow probably never had someone give him treats from their hand or had someone give him tummy rubs and ear scratches.

Soon to be available for adoption: Jesse James

Jesse James, two years old, is fairly new to foster care at this time. He is still extremely shy, having had little socialization before coming to rescue from a puppy mill. This ten pound curly coated wonder is learning a lot with his dog experienced foster family. Jesse gets along with other dogs and liked the quiet, older grandchild that was visiting with the family.

Jesse needs people who understand that he needs time to adjust and respond. Fast movements and loud voices are frightening to him. He will learn more about being a part of a family while in foster care but will likely need someone who is dog savvy and prepared to give him time to adjust to new surroundings and people.

Having come from a commercial breeding facility, Jesse probably never had the experience of someone petting him, giving him a treat or even a name. He was a number before he came to rescue instead of the alert and bright little dog he's becoming.

Jesse is in foster care in Ohio.

Keep your fingers crossed...

Rescue keeps getting calls on a daily basis...some from shelters, some from folks who know about dogs in puppy mills, and some potential owner turn-ins. Luckily, many of our dedicated rescue staff are able to assist people on the phone or internet and help owners with house-training issues, issues with children and/or family changes, separation anxiety...and many other things.

Havanese are sweet, smart, and sensitive dogs who need lots of attention and love. They are companion dogs after all.

My two dogs have completely changed my life for the better...my two sweet havanese, Riki and Daisy. I think it is they who have "rescued" me.

I know I post a great deal about HRI and the rescue dogs available...but you wonderful Forum folks have adopted several and many of you have become potential foster parents.

The forum through Melissa has made a beautiful calendar which has saved the lives of many dogs...

The Forum Quilt for 2008 has been generously donated to raise funds for rescue so that we can assist the dogs in the first couple of posts as well as help out all those we get calls for every week. The numbers are considerably higher than we had last year.

Keep our fingers crossed for furever homes for these sweet dears...all we add is love and lots of patience and consistency. What we get back is more than words can describe.

Desi's foster care video...

This is cute...Desi, the havanese watching TV, can also be seen in his foster care video. He only hopped at first, and eventually learned how to use his paw to balance, then walk, and then run....

Does anyone know if they will ship to Canada? I have a good friend who is potentially looking at getting a dog.

Jesse & Shadow have a heart breaking story of how they came to HRI-come see me at Nationals & I will be glad to share it with you.

Also the new avatar I have is of my Rommy man not long after I started Fostering him-you will see him at Nationals in the Parade and please take a minute to stop & pet him-even after a year of being in my home and being loved he is still timid-but is learning that other people besides mom are nice.

And Rommy wants everyone to check out his collar & lead at Nationals-he now has his very own-Harley Davidson collar & Bad To The Bone Lead. That's my boy.

Jesse and Shadow

I won't be there...can you tell us a bit of their story? It really helps me to remember why I do what I do for rescue.

Our dogs have such good lives...
