Question BEST dry dog/puppy foods??

I would like to get some opinions on dry dog and puppy foods. I am looking for a very high quality food that you (and your Havs) have been happy with.

I have been using Nutro but just read a very scary (recent) article pertaining to Nutro and would like to change foods. I also have noticed that Summer has been getting more and more disinterested in it anyway.

Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi Jen! Love your cutie pie in the avatar.

Nutro is a scary product for many. Our Amy (Posh's mom) has had bag experiences with it. There are many great quality kibble on the market, such as Orijen (grainless), Innova (Evo is their grainless version), Fromm's (they have both with and w/o grain). Solid Gold is a good one too.

I work at a health food store for cats and dogs, and we hear so many times that there is itching, foul odor, loss of hair, flaky skin ... Oftentimes, the owners switch to grainless food and it makes a huge improvement. Not all dogs need to make that switch though. It's just something you might want to look into.

There are threads on the subject all over the forum, so if you do a 'search', you might find more info.

Well since I feed raw I would recommend raw but I also used to feed Innova and Evo and highly recommend them. You can check www.dogfoodanalysis.com for reviews. Anything in the 5 and 6 star category are best.

Yep Marj is correct, I SWEAR Nutro kibble slowly destroyed both of my beloved now deceased dogs' livers over time.

Both of them ended up have extremely high levels of toxins in their system and eventually my border collie died because of the damage to her liver. Immediately, I had myself and husband's liver enzyme levels tested. We checked out fine. I was concerned there was something toxic that the dogs were ingesting, be it water, in the air, whatever that was causing them both to have these high levels of toxins all of a sudden. After our environment was ruled out by our normal levels, I just had this terrible feeling the Nutro dog food I had been feeding my dogs for the past 5 years was the source of their sickness.

I started doing some online research after the dog food recall, and I have found over 700 cases of dog death/liver failure and Nutro dog dry kibble, which was not recalled. I think this is too much of coincidence for me to gamble with.

I began doing research after my b.c. died whilst I still had my dane and switched him to Nature's Variety Instinct. He immediately began to shed less, his coat was glossy, he lost his TERRIBLE dandruff problem and just looked like he all together felt better.

I have also thanks to my breeder and the forum been introduced to a huge variety of EXCEPTIONAL kibble. I am now feeding my Posh only foods and treats made in the U.S. and these include-Innova Evo, Merrick, and Sister Joan's Dog Treats (made by a nun in St. Paul, MN).

It's a sad scary corporate world out there...but there are some really great people who really care about the products and the dogs that will be consuming them.

Best to you.
