Updated news, Halo Dog Food

It's been a 3 week battle but Halo finally saw things my way and are now getting involved instead of giving me a run around and are going to have an independent lab test their food and say they're going to pick up the vet bills for sick dogs from their food and will work with my vets. They offered to refund the 54.00 I paid in food that's just sitting here unused but I said I'd take it back to Petco after we got sample of the food for testing. They said not to do that because they were afraid Petco would put the food back on the shelf (the unopened canned) and it might get other dogs sick. I have to give them credit for that.
Mess with me and I can deal with it. Mess with my dogs or kids and I'm a witch on wheels.
So now we wait for the lab to send me a mailer and one of my vets to get back from vacation so a vet they use can talk to both of my vets. They said something that really unsettled me though. They said that when they have cases like this, they always use this one vet to talk to the vets that took care of the sick dogs.

Are you suspicious that they are up to something? I'm keeping a close eye on this thread to see how it all pans out. I had been wanting to try Halo food and discovered the Co-op here in town just started carrying it. I wont be buying any until I hear the all-clear. If you suspect they are attempting to skew the results, I'd be interested in knowing that.

So as I understand it, they will have samples tested at an independant lab. Are you or your vet also having samples tested?

Well at least they are taking you seriously now. Which means that you aren't the only ones reporting it. Personally, I'd hold on to the food until they've reimbursed your vet bills - that's the only "evidence" you have. Offer to send them back a sample of the bag with the lot numbers but they may try and say that by reimbursing you for the food they've honored their "guarantee" and their liability is nada at that point. Don't you just hate my suspicious mind?

I'm right there with you. Hang on to the food. There excuse to not return it to the store makes good sense, but if you give it back to them, you have nothing to test if they don't follow through as promised.

They kept demanding that I send THEM the dog food and I said no, I wanted it tested at an independent lab where we would both get the results. That's what's been taking so long in dealing with them. If I handed over all the food to them, they could say anything they wanted to. They finally agreed to an independent lab after 3 weeks of me demanding it.
It's been a really rocky path with Halo. First it took days for them to even get back to me because the only dept that deals with problems with their food was so backed up. That alone caused me concern. Then they gave out my personal information to someone who called them after seeing a post about it so she told me everything they said and she had more information than I did!
When they finally saw that they weren't going to get rid of me after 3 weeks, then they turned it over to the man who is up higher in the company. He lied to me a couple of times, but I caught him in them and wasn't going to let up until he admitted them. They're out to protect their company and I can understand that. Anyone can claim anything but when you have 2 vets that go over the tests on your dogs and both say the new bag of food caused it, then I believe them and the dogs got sick and threw up undigested Halo food.
I was a huge Halo fan and even sent pictures of the food to lists. The ingredient list looks awesome, the food looks fantastic, and the dogs loved it.....until I bought that new bag and then they didn't want it. That sure taught me to listen to my dogs.
I don't know how accurate the tests will be since the canned food that was put on the dry food can't be tested now. Halo is saying that with the lot number of the cans they can test the food on their end.....but didn't ask for the lot number or the cans.

I'm as suspicious as you are and I wasn't going to stop until it went to an independent lab that gives both of us the results. The vet that they use for problems is a gastric specialist or so they say. That alone made me sit up and really take notice. Why do they have a gastric vet on call to them if they have no problems?
I told them I've been really nice so far and have only gone back to the people that I told this food was great to, but if they push me too far I'll go to all dog venues and talk about it. Then they offered to pay the vet bills....and this started July 3rd and went over a holiday so it's not cheap.

There's another problem. The lot number was at the top of the bag where you rip it open. All that's left on there is 'best if used by'

After my dog died from a mysterious liver problem I had my other dog's enzyme's checked he also had a sick liver.

I truly believe in my heart that Nutro dog food was the source of "high levels of toxins" in both of my dog's livers and I will NEVER ever feed any dog such a poor excuse for food.

It is a corporate world we live in, and people are so good at protecting their ass-ets! It's just wrong.

Jan you are awesome and I commend you for taking the time to keep at this. Obviously it is for the "other" people out there, as I'm sure you won't buy Halo again. I know you just don't want other dogs to get sick and for that I absolutely applaud your efforts.
